Shattered Moments

Episode 10 The semester ended, and everything had seemed perfect. Maya and Ethan’s project had won the campus exhibition, and their hard work had been recognized. It was finally time to go home for the holidays. Maya felt light, happy, and proud of herself. She had grown so much over the past few months not just as a photographer, but as a person. Her family noticed it too. Ethan, however, remained quiet, his usual calm demeanor hiding something Maya didn’t understand. He didn’t talk much about his family or where he8 came from, and Maya didn’t push. She thought maybe that was just who he was reserved and private. The holidays at home were peaceful for Maya. She settled back into her routine, helping her mother, playing with her younger siblings, and enjoying the calm after a busy semester. She often smiled when she thought about the memories she and Ethan had made, the sunsets they had photographed, and the laughter they had shared. Then one afternoon, her phone rang. The number was private. Curious, Maya answered. “Get away from Ethan McKenzie.” The voice on the other end was cold and urgent. “He has a girlfriend… and a one-year-old child.” Maya froze. Her heart sank so fast it felt like it might stop. “W-what?” she whispered, her voice barely audible. The line went dead. For a moment, Maya couldn’t breathe. She sat on her bed, staring at the phone, her mind racing. The boy she thought she knew the one who had made her laugh, the one who had shared sunsets and quiet moments had a whole other life she didn’t know about. The news crushed her. Everything felt heavy the memories, the trust, the small happiness she had carried with her during the holidays. She wanted to cry, to scream, to make sense of it all, but she couldn’t. Maya felt a wave of sadness wash over her. She loved photography, she loved life, but right now, her heart ached with disappointment. She realized that even the most perfect stories can have dark chapters. But deep down, a small spark remained. She wiped her tears and picked up her camera. Maybe she couldn’t control the heartache, but she could still capture the beauty in the world.
