The Truth Hurts

429 Words
Episode 11 Maya tried to carry on, but the thought of Ethan and the mysterious warning haunted her. Every memory of him their laughs, the rooftop sunsets, the city walks felt suddenly heavy. She couldn’t believe it. It didn’t make sense. At first, she kept it to herself, pretending around her family and siblings that everything was fine. But the loneliness at home was unbearable. She didn’t have close friends at university yet, and she felt trapped in her own thoughts. Eventually, she confided in her older sister, Emily. “Maya… you can’t just sit there feeling sorry for yourself,” Emily said gently. “If you want answers, you need to talk to him. Call Ethan. Find out the truth yourself instead of letting your mind imagine the worst.” Maya hesitated, but Emily’s words made sense. That evening, her hands shaking, she dialed Ethan’s number. “Ethan… I need to know,” Maya said as soon as he answered. “Do you… do you have a girlfriend? A child? Tell me the truth.” There was silence on the other end. Then Ethan’s voice came, calm but firm: “Maya… I don’t know what to say. I didn’t expect this to come from you like this. I can explain if you want, but" Before he could continue, Maya interrupted. “Just… be honest, Ethan. Please.” “I” he started, but the line suddenly went dead. Almost immediately, her phone buzzed. A message from a private number appeared. Private number: “You wanted the truth. Here it is.” Attached were several photos. Maya opened them, her hands trembling. There was Ethan smiling with a woman and a small child, outside a large house, next to a luxury car. Her stomach sank as she scrolled. Everything she thought she knew about him… it was all a lie. She sat on her bed, frozen, staring at the images. Ethan had a whole life she had never known. A family. Money. Stability. And none of it included her. Tears welled up, and she pressed her forehead against her knees. All the laughter, all the moments they had shared… had she been foolish to trust him? Her camera sat beside her, a reminder that at least some part of her life was real her passion, her family, her dreams. But the betrayal stung so deeply that she couldn’t see that yet. For the first time, Maya understood that people aren’t always who they seem. And in that moment, staring at the photos, she realized she had been the fool.
