CHAPTER 8“To say we see 'everything' can no longer be much of an exaggeration” -- Nigel Calder, from Violent Universe Trees were flying by; the tram followed the beeline of the Scheveningse weg and was occasionally struck by a low branch. Hubert addressed the other people on the tram in his mind: “And above all, my fellow travelers on your imitation leather seats; above everything else, you must know that Helga loves me. Helga loves a man, and by a wonderful coincidence, that man happens to be me!” He wanted to chant his lover's chant into the world, which still went on in its tracks as if nothing had happened. The years of estrangement were over forever: what a terrible misunderstanding this had been! Yet all along, fate had meant them to be together, and fate had succeeded in the end.
