Chapter 4 • A peculiar Sunday
During the summer, Dimitri had inhabited the holiday world of Kyrenia, far removed from life in the capital, where the summer heat wave seemed to be competing with ever more heated political developments. Dimitri had not even been aware that there was a general strike in the first week of August. A special session of the Pancyprian National Assembly was held in the Archbishop’s Palace, but he only heard about that, and about the Ethnarch’s firebrand speech, from stray remarks, distinctly negative, which had caught his attention while in the company of Mr Neophytou.
