From Monday onwards, the trial of Michalis Karaolis sent its tidal waves over Seraglio Square, without sparing the English School.
Karaolis had been a pupil at the school. His name was on everybody’s lips, teachers and pupils alike, at least among the Greek Cypriots. Turkish Cypriots, Armenians and Maronites seemed not to be concerned about the matter. Most of the English teachers preserved a stiff upper lip. The liveliest discussions took place among the Greeks.
