Chapter 15 • The field marshal
The coming week promised to be highly eventful. On Monday, Dimitri went home from school expecting to find news from his father about the arrival of the new governor. But Mr Dorides had had to leave suddenly for Skouriotissa. Fears were spreading that the situation in the area of the mines would be impossible to control; there had been an attempt on the life of a British engineer at Amiantos.
Later that evening, Dimitri was unpleasantly surprised by a visit from Jenny, who was worried about the safety of her fiancé and had instinctively sought comfort from the person closest to him, his son.
