Chapter 19: Settling In

While in the office reviewing paperwork, Emile and I agreed to allow the railroad to pass through Dragonmare, facilitating travel for those going to havens beyond Roman's influence. Aidan and the boys have mostly graduated from college, Drax being the first to have his PhD, and Ty and Aidan will follow soon. Desi walked in, and I looked at him, he said, "Herman, is updating the hierarchy, you haven't listed an heir or should I say update it." I smiled and said, "It goes to Livia, but she doesn't want it so it passes to Dune when I am ready to step down." He asked, "What about Jae? He is your oldest and won't like this," I sighed and said, "I know, we haven't been seeing eye to eye in years, but he is my son. In the rule of succession, the legitimate heir to the throne would be Dune because Mia is my fated mate and Ruby is not."

Desi glanced up as I sensed someone by the door; it was Jae, he concealed his true emotions from me, but if he lingered long enough, he would have heard them. Desi bowed and left us, Jae said, "I came to get the package for Mom, she sent me over, I guess she thinks we need to talk more." He looked around the office and said, "Great view of the canal, I remember when it was all forest, times have changed." I said, "I know you heard, Jae, I can explain," he nodded for me to stop and said, "As you said, it's the rule of succession, I am close to what you call a bastard son," grabbing his mother's gift and walked out. It was Ruby and I's time to be together, I always sent a gift, but she sent Jae to collect it instead because she wants us so badly to make up, but when we are in the same room, it always ends badly.

I got up to go after him but saw him chatting and having fun with his brothers, he looked at me and then ignored me before my boys left early for lunch. I felt like I was losing Jae and didn't know how to handle the situation, I linked Ruby and told her what happened, she felt bad he walked in on that, she already knew about the succession, since Mia had our kids, that's why she never pushed him or told him about being King. Someone was fueling my son's head with malice, trying to turn him against me and I needed to find out who before it was too late. I notified my secretary about my early departure and decided to follow Jae after lunch with his brothers, I took one of my guard's cars instead to avoid easy detection, he wasn't going home, that's for sure. He turned off to a private residence and I looked it up, I smiled because it was one of Lamorio's properties and the plot thickened, I contacted Allan because I had another mission for him.

Later, I was in a meeting with Ty and Elijah, we joked a little, they were in my territory because I usually don't climb down from my mountains. They were filling me in on plans to locate Toffe, and I lent a few of my top warriors to help, Allan works closely with Michael because he was in Michael's elite team of assassins. I headed home once everything was finalized, I was also invited to Aidan's company reveal, which would also introduce them to society, as Ares Valmore, Drake Valmore, Tennison Valmore of Valmore Enterprises Inc. Emile and Cayden help them acquire the buildings and lands, naming the territory Frogger Forest which houses their resting place, which is sacred to them. Addison did great in keeping them persevered, the moon goddess set them on this path and I am here along for the ride.

I stepped into Palace One, which had been updated to meet modern standards, it was stunning inside, and I made my way to the library, where Ruby was searching for ancient books. Her face lit up with a smile when she noticed me, and she kissed me on the lips, I always find myself missing my mates, even during brief separations. She held my hand, and we sat by the window looking at the beautiful forest not far away, she said, "I am sorry about, Jae, he is very hard to please these days." I stopped her because she always makes excuses for his behavior and I said, "I think someone is whispering in his ear." She didn't act surprised because she believed it too, we kissed and decided to have lunch together linking the chef to whip up something quickly for us. Ruby was always my peace and very intelligent, I wouldn't put it past her to get to the bottom of this.

The Ball

Ty/Tennison

I had made it my business wanting to have my mate beside me tonight, however, when I saw her husband, I was furious but knew he would be out of the picture soon. I also had to ensure security was tight tonight knowing Roman would try to pressure us because we keep refusing his business deals. However, I thought a little fun torturing Roman couldn't hurt until Aidan refused, I was happy once I found out he marked Michelle, she was our Luna and Queen since being marked, and we were preparing for it, we respected her and she blended in well anyway, she loves Aidan, anyone can see that. I don't know how he will handle Lily going forward but from what Addison told me, she did what she had to do to survive years of abuse from Roman. However, she did a good job with her kids that we might end up killing in our need for revenge.

I had ordered a whiskey and was waiting for it as I was reading a message from Addy on my phone, she was showing me her sexy lingerie. As the bartender handed me the glass, I smiled and messaged back saying, "Meet me in my office in ten minutes on the 125th floor," she sent me a smiling emoji. I drank the whiskey and instantly felt the vervain go down my throat, it burned a little and I looked at Max, who was human, and I heard his heart rate pick up. I started laughing and mind-linked everyone, "Traitors in the mix," before grabbing him and biting into his neck. As I drained him, I saw his memories opening my link for Aidan and Drax to see before a shot was heard and Drax was on the floor. The valet had a gun and was about to run to the side door before my men captured him and brought him back.

I looked at Max's dead body on the floor and told a hysterical Emerie, "Relax, Drax was fine, give him a second," she held him crying. Aidan was pissed, and I looked at the sight before me, it was the waiter who was assigned to girls the whole night, I mind-linked men to check on the ladies. They turned out to be okay and no one was allowed to leave, Roman and some of his allies were the only ones who didn't have some shocked faces, but we kept that in, I wanted him dead, but in due time. I turned to see Desi, he was here in Dominic's place, I knew Allan was on a mission as we burned Roman's business to the ground. He was just as shocked as everyone, the secret was out, we weren't easy to kill this time around and the fear in Roman's eyes as Aidan spoke with him spoke volumes, we were well on our way to taking what he stole from us back.

Lord Desi

Dominic kept his allyship with Alpha Aidan private and had always been neutral in matters, and that is what he made Roman believe all those years. He has been contacting Dominic non-stop to form a treaty since he heard about the up-and-coming strong Alpha brothers who made billions since showing up eight years ago. Raven was attending with me, she loved the elite parties and I loved taking her, she was my mate and still sexy after having eight hatchlings together, we loved our kids and some of them had made us grandparents already. We pulled up to the venue and walked down the red carpet, I saw how some of the unmated men looked at my wife, but they knew not to piss a mated dragon off. I was welcomed in by a few of Aidan's top security at the door, we went to the bar, had a few drinks, and made small talk with the guests.

Once the boys arrive, everything goes downhill, Roman makes a big mistake when he tries to get Ty poison and shoots Drax in the head. Aidan didn't flinch, only told us to stand down in his link, Roman looked like he was ready to s**t himself and I looked at everyone enjoying the show. Ty did not disappoint in giving us a show and when Drax got up from a bullet to the head, I was even amazed, this would be the first time I saw the Supremes in action. Only a few knew who they truly were, and I was glad I was trusted with this information, the civil war would be upon us soon, and I couldn't wait to kill the phony King. The party continued after the clean up, Aidan gave his speech, and the ribbon cut signaling the opening of Valmore Enterprises Inc. I kissed Raven, and she was as happy as I was, I mind-linked Dominic about the progress, and he was pleased. We all learned that Allan did his part in the secret mission burning the breeding house facility down.
