Chapter 36 “Little red finger…” Elias held up a berry he had found to compare it to his thumb. It was round and had grown in a bunch on a low bush that he had stumbled across while foraging for anything he and Mila might be able to eat for the day. With his stomach rumbling, and he tried to push his hunger from his mind to concentrate on his inspection. It was one of the more difficult things he had done in the past while. “Little red finger worth the bunch. Swollen fingers are bad for lunch.” The rhyme was nearly dead in his mind. Holding the berry over his pinky finger, he found the nail completely covered by it, but when he tried the same with his thumb, it was too small. He couldn’t remember anything more of the rhyme to puzzle out whether or not it mattered that it was talking about
