The safe house on the edge of town was quiet now, the mission over, the threat gone. Leila sat on the rooftop, the city lights flickering like distant stars. Rae joined her, a blanket wrapped around their shoulders. “Cold?” he asked. “A little. But it feels… peaceful.” They watched the night, the silence comfortable. After a moment, Rae spoke. “I’ve been thinking about my sister. About what I did, what I couldn’t save.” Leila took his hand. “You saved me. You saved Mia. That’s not nothing.” He sighed, the weight of years pressing. “I love you, Leila. I never thought I’d get a chance to say it.” Her heart fluttered. “I love you too. And I’m not letting go.” A soft laugh escaped him. “Even if I’m still… broken?” “Maybe that’s why we fit.” She leaned in, their foreheads touching. “We’re each other’s glue.” Below, the city never slept. Sirens wailed in the distance, but here, on the rooftop, there was only them, the night, and the promise of tomorrow.
