FACADE
Wes Group
Natalie walked inside the building, her heels making noise as she walked like she was ready for murder. Everyone stood up and began greeting her, none of which she responded to but the employees knew better than to not greet the boss's daughter. Everyone feared Natalie, except from Fenella. The employees do wonder why Fenella hasn't been fired. Could she ever get fired? Her best friend was married to the son of the boss's friend and it was obvious the boss wanted something from his friend. Also, Mr Haldor treated Fenella like family and since Mr Wesley wanted something from Mr Haldor, he knew better than to mess with Fenella.
Natalie ignored all their greetings till she got to her father's office.
The old man looked up after hearing the door open.
"Fenella's absent again dad. Don't you tolerate that girl too much?"Natalie asked
She didn't like that Daniella didn't fear her. She was her boss's daughter for crying out loud. Why didn't she fear her? It made her detest her more.
If she could find something to use as a leverage... maybe, just maybe, she'd get exactly what she wanted from her.
"Of course she should be absent. Her best friend was kidn*pped last night. Haven't you gone online today? It's trending." Mr Wesley said and Natalie looked shocked.
"kidn*pped? Skye? But still, dad"
"Fenella's brought about lots of money for us with her wonderful designs. She knows how to sugar-coat Haldor and make him partner with us all the time. Do you think I'll let such person go? This is business, Natalie. Learn to differentiate business from personal sentiments and feelings. Go, if you have nothing else to say." the man said and Natalie stormed out angrily, dialing Tristan's number.
Skye's kidnap was the topic of the day, it was trending everywhere. Somehow, the media got to know of it like always. There's absolutely nothing you can hide from them.
Tristan didn't like this at all. They were making it seem like he didn't care. Even though that was the case, he still wanted to keep up the front. He somehow still wanted to be the perfect husband at least until he gets what he wants.
The police were trying their best to find the car but nothing has been found. No calls from the kidnappers yet, so, they couldn't do anything.
Fenella and Joan, were going about looking for means to find Skye while Tristan did nothing.
They didn't know what to think about a man who was so nonchalant about the disappearance of his wife. Even though, he didn't love her, couldn't he be a decent enough man to partake in the activities that could lead to finding her?
A DAY LATER
Tristan finally decided to rise from the bed when his phone wouldn't stop ringing. He vaguely remembered that it had rang twice prior to now, he wondered who had called. He was so tired and sleepy so he didn't take it. But now, this particular caller seemed so desperate to talk to him and wouldn't let him be till he answered. He slowly picked the call and the first thing he did was to shout at the caller.
"For someone whose wife have been kidn*pped, you seem fine. Is that how much you love your wife?" the leader asked.
"Who is this?"Tristan asked, alarmed.
"Good question. I have your wife"
"And? You'd better release her and don't call me again." Tristan said nonchalantly.
"20 million dollars. You'll see your wife once I get the money. We can discuss pickup and dropoff then." the leader said and Tristan sprung up.
"You must be foolish to think I'll spend such money to get Skye out. Go ahead and do as you please, I'll find you and will get her out." Tristan said and ended the call.
'Those bastards. They think they can blackmail me using Skye? Wait, could it be that Skye planned it with them? Gosh, that woman. Couldn't she have minded her business? If she had just remained where she was."' Tristan thought.
He was now seeing how serious the situation was. He felt a little tug. But no, that didn't mean anything. Right? It was just him being human and feeling sympathy for a woman he is married to only on paper. There was really nothing to feel for her apart from that. But still, the amount they were calling was too much. Even if he had it, he wasn't willing to spend it on someone he felt no atom of love for.
The kidnappers looked at themselves after Tristan ended the call. To say they were surprised was an understatement because they were more than surprised. Isn't this the famous couple, Tristan and Skye Haldor who everyone loved? Other couples were even jealous of the love Tristan and Skye shared. There was no news of them getting into a fight. Was all of that a facade? To deceive everyone that they were such a happy couple? Skye was sure her husband to would get her out but the husband didn't seem interested in helping out his wife. Could it be that the husband didn't love his wife as much as he claimed to?.
"Give that lady a few hit and send a photo of her bruised face to her husband. There's no way he wouldn't give us a call after seeing his bruised wife." the leader said.
"And the cops?"
"We've got back up. They wouldn't find us. Just dump that van somewhere they can find it and faraway from this place. Make sure to cover up your tracks. Do not leave traces".
"Yes sir".the two others answered.
He went to take a smoke while the two got split up. One was to go rough Skye up a bit and the other went ahead to dispose off the car. He was good at it.
Skye just sat idly, there was literally nothing to do. She couldn't even look outside. The room they had put her in had a very small window that was high up in the room, she could barely reach it. She looked around for something that might be of help to her condition. There was nothing. She let out a groan. She wondered what the closest persons in her life could be doing right now, and if they are having clues as to where she might be. She pitied her mother. The woman had been through quite a lot. From when she was small to loosing her dad's company to a distant relative whom her dad trusted.
She shook her head and rested it against the wall she was leaning on.
She thought about her husband, would he look for her? He had to feel something for her enough to want to find her. Right? He had to look for her. She really hoped he would. She didn't want to think about him not caring at all. That would mean she had loved in vain. Totally. That would mean he didn't consider her human. That would cause her more pain than anything. But the hours had turned into days and nothing had been heard from him.
She sat up as the door opened. She expected some sort of refreshment, but what greeted her was a slap. She wasn't prepared for it, it threw her face to the side. She shrieked and turned to the man. Before she could say a thing, there was another and another and another. It kept on going till she heard a ringing in her right ear. She felt if it didn't stop, she was going to go deaf. She didn't want to think about how much her life would change if that eventually happens. She tried blocking the incoming ones with her hands, but, oh, was she weak. She sat there and took it. She took all of it. It eventually stopped. He turned and left.
She sat there quivering. Why was this done to her? Had they called Tristan and he ignored them? Was that why this happened? That was the only reason she could think of. She really hoped that wasn't the reason though. She felt the familiar painful feeling pierce her chest and run through her body. It was more painful this time.
Tristan had abandoned her and there was nothing she could do about it. Despite knowing this through her gut feeling, she hoped she was wrong. She really hoped so.
Why was she even clinging to something that wasn't there?
He had showed her from the beginning that he didn't really care, but she had held on.
He was easily the best person to bring her out of this mess. She knew for sure that Fenella was doing something to get her out, but how effective and fast was her effort going to be?
She released a painful groan. She didn't know what hurt more, the pain from the slaps she just received or the one from the knowledge of the fact that the man who is her husband didn't care.
