People could be seen gathering in the palace. Everyone wore their best outfits as this day was a great day in the kingdom. One of their longest tradition was to take place. The prince was meant to choose a bride today before he can be crowned king.
The maidens could be seen showing off their beauty in their best attire with the hopes of being chosen.
Once all was set, the prince and the queen walked in and took their seats. The ceremony began and the maidens began their dancing and showing off their skills.
After the dancing came the battle of wits where questions are asked by the elders in council and the ladies answer.
Meals are also prepared and presented for tasting by the queen to ascertain who can cook well for her son.
The prince keenly observes and makes sure to choose the one that he sees fit.
The ceremony was coming to a close and the time for the prince to make his choice came. Everyone was excited and the ladies were not an exception. Some were very confident that they would be chosen whilst others felt they didn't qualify.
The prince stepped forward with his staff of authority, ready to make a verdict.
"I, prince Matinge of Kapokosi! The heir apparent to the throne, declare that: amongst all the beautiful maidens here today, the one that I fancy is......not here."
Just as the people and the drummers were about to continue their jubilation, they froze due to the prince's statement.
