After the prince calmed down, his mother waited for him to tell them everything without feeling pressured.
After what seemed forever, the prince started narrating his dream without leaving out any detail.
His mother moved closer and embraced him.
"It's ok son. It was just a dream. Don't be afraid. All shall be well."
The king on the other hand had a different opinion.
"How can all be well woman! Your son just told you he is afraid of his responsibilities and you say all shall be well? He was born for this! He can't avoid it so talk some sense into him instead of the pampering!"
"Don't be angry my king. Let's all calm down and see the way forward. Letting anger set in won't do us any good."
After all was calm, the queen started talking.
"Son! Why are you scared?"
The prince pondered for a while before responding
"I'm afraid of failing my people. What if I can't protect them? What if I can't solve their problems when the time comes? What if I lack the wisdom to rule?"
The queen saw where the problem was and smiled
"Enough of the "what ifs". You lack confidence. That is the issue. The people love you for whom you are. Just do what you feel is right when the time comes and all other things shall fall in place."
The king also realized the problem and agreed with his wife
"Your mother is right. Forgive me for my outburst earlier. Now I know why you were scared. It was same for me as well but look at me today. I believe in you."
"Really? You mean I can be a good ruler?"
Both parents nodded and the prince's mood improved.
