It's been three weeks since the king passed but the prince hasn't accepted it yet. He has been keeping to himself ever since the passing of the king. His mother, the queen has been running the affairs of the kingdom whiles everyone waits for the prince to accept his loss and take up the mantle of leadership. A month went by quickly, yet the prince hadn't come to terms with reality. This worried everyone especially the queen. She knew she had to do something before things take a different turn. One early morning, the queen went into the prince's chamber. He was still in bed though not sleeping. "How are you doing son?" "I'm fine mother." The prince answered in a perfunctory manner. The queen didn't take it well "Don't give me that attitude young man! You are not the only one grieving here!" The prince who was not in a good mood retorted strongly "Well it doesn't seem like you are grieving at all as you are busy being a q....." Before he could complete his statement, a slap landed on his cheek. "Watch your mouth young man. I can accept your attitude but I will not have you insult me. You may have lost your father, but I lost more than that." The queen starts crying and the prince who was still holding his cheek became flustered since he has always known his mother to be strong. The queen sat on his bed "He was my best friend, my confidant and husband. I have known him all my life and now he is gone. You know nothing of how I feel. You better stop this your attitude and perform your responsibility unless you want the throne to be given to a different family!" She stormed off after speaking. The reality dawned on the prince and he wiped his tears and sat up.
