I thought Kael would be enough.
I was wrong.
The weekend with Kael was everything I had ever dreamed of passionate, intense, and utterly consuming. He touched me like I was the only woman in the world, and for those two days, I believed it.
But when Monday came, reality crashed back down.
Liam returned home, and Kael became the protective older brother again. He barely looked at me, let alone touched me. The man who had worshipped my body just hours ago was now a stranger.
I told myself I understood. I told myself it was for the best.
But it still hurts.
The hurt faded when I met Damon.
He was my new boss at the publishing house where I interned. He was cold, ruthless, and untouchable, a billionaire Alpha who owned half the city. Everyone at the office was terrified of him.
Everyone except me.
I had been working there for three weeks when he called me into his office. My heart pounded as I stepped through the door, unsure what to expect.
"Miss Vance," he said, his voice smooth as silk. "Close the door."
I obeyed, my hands trembling slightly. Damon was tall and broad-shouldered, with jet-black hair and eyes the color of burning amber. He was devastatingly handsome and utterly intimidating.
"You wanted to see me?" I asked.
He rose from his chair and walked toward me, his movements slow and predatory. I backed up instinctively, my spine hitting the door.
"Don't be afraid," he murmured, his hand reaching out to cup my cheek. "I'm not going to hurt you."
"Then what are you going to do?"
His eyes darkened with desire. "I'm going to show you exactly what you've been missing."
The kiss was unlike anything I had ever experienced.
Kael had been rough and demanding. Damon was controlled, deliberate, and devastatingly intense. He kissed me like he had all the time in the world like I was a puzzle he wanted to solve.
"You have no idea how long I've been watching you," he murmured against my lips. "How many nights I've lain awake, thinking about you."
"What about Kael?" I asked, my voice breathless.
Damon pulled back, his eyes narrowing. "Kael?"
"He and I..." I trailed off, unsure how to explain.
"I know all about you and Kael," Damon said. "I know everything, Aria. And I don't care. Kael had his chance. Now it's my turn."
I should have said no. I should have walked away.
But something in his eyes drew me in, something dark and possessive that made my knees weak.
"Okay," I whispered. "Okay."
What happened in that locked office was nothing short of forbidden.
Damon stripped off his tie and fell to his knees before me, the cold, untouchable Alpha, begging for my touch. He looked up at me with desperate, needy eyes, his voice cracking with desire.
"Please," he said. "Please, Aria. I need you."
I had never felt so powerful in my entire life.
"Look at you," I whispered, my fingers tangling in his hair. "The big, bad Alpha, on his knees for me."
"I would do anything for you," he said, his voice ragged. "Anything you wanted."
"Then show me."
He did.
Afterward, I sat in his office, my body still humming with satisfaction. Damon sat beside me, his arm draped possessively over my shoulders.
"You're dangerous," I said, looking up at him. "You know that, right?"
He smirked, a wicked glint in his eyes. "So are you, Aria. So are you."
"What happens now?"
He pressed a kiss to my forehead. "Now, you keep working for me. And whenever I want you, you come to me."
"And if I say no?"
His eyes darkened. "You won't."
He was right. I wouldn't.
That night, I lay in bed, staring at the ceiling.
Kael had awakened something in me, a hunger I hadn't known I possessed. Damon had fed that hunger, made it grow. Now I crave more.
But somewhere in the back of my mind, a voice whispered that this was only the beginning.
There were others out there. Other Alphas who would want me, who would claim me. And I knew, deep down, that I wouldn't be able to resist them.
