Georgia's words hung in the air inside the car.
Stephen's face froze for a split second, and he suddenly found himself at a total loss for words.
The car pulled to a stop right in front of the dorm building.
Georgia got out, her tone polite but ice-cold as she said, "Thanks for the ride."
Still sitting in the driver's seat, Stephen watched her back as she walked into the dorm, and a sharp, scheming glint of amusement flared to life in his eyes.
*****
An entire week went by, and Georgia didn't catch a single glimpse of Felix.
Her phone, though, was blowing up nonstop with messages from Ophelia.
Ophelia: Georgia, I'm pregnant with Felix's baby. I'm so nervous right now! He said nothing matters more than our baby these days. He even said, I can move into your future marital home first!
Ophelia: Georgia, this pajama set Felix bought for you? It's so comfy to wear.
Ophelia: Georgia, Felix's parents called him to push him to marry you, but he said he wanted to wait a little longer.
Message after message, all of them blatant, taunting digs, left Georgia's heart a cold, empty wasteland.
After a while, though, she could read every last one of Ophelia's messages without so much as a flicker of emotion on her face.
Then, on the eighth day, a new text from Ophelia popped up.
Ophelia: Georgia, you dare mess with my brother? I swear I'll make you pay for this!
Georgia's forehead twitched. Right then, her phone buzzed in her palm. Felix was calling.
She answered by instinct, and his completely emotionless voice hit her ear immediately. "I have something to ask you. Get over to the school gate."
Before Georgia could get a single word out, he'd already hung up.
When Georgia reached the school gate, she spotted Felix standing there, his whole body radiating icy, simmering anger.
She barely had time to process what was happening before he grabbed her and dragged her into his car.
Click.
The sound of the door locking was immediately followed by Felix's harsh, unforgiving question. "Why did Stephen drive you back to school after the party the other day?" He stared daggers at Georgia. "You know full well the Pembroke family wanted to arrange a marriage with your family back then! Did you even stop to think about how I'd feel?"
Staring at his cold, furious eyes, Georgia was suddenly struck by how absurd this all was. She wrenched her hand out of his grip and spoke in a flat, steady tone. "Felix, are you accusing me of having some kind of sleazy, secret relationship with Stephen?"
The question caught Felix off guard, and his breath caught in his throat for a second. He reached out to grab her hand again by instinct, his voice softening a little. "Georgia, don't say things like that just to make me mad." He ran a hand through his hair roughly, clearly frustrated. "After Stephen dropped you off, he took a photo of your back and posted it on his social media feed. Said it was the first time in his life he'd ever driven a girl back to her dorm. All our friends are asking me about it…" His tone turned almost petulant as he went on. "You're my girlfriend, my future wife. I don't want people getting the wrong idea about you. But no worries, I have already made Stephen delete the post. Georgia, I will never let you have anything to do with any other man."
His empty romantic lines were as cheap and generic as mass-produced market goods. They didn't stir even the tiniest ripple in Georgia's heart, if anything, after hearing so many of them, they just sounded grating to her ears.
She nodded anyway. Soon, neither Stephen nor the man sitting right in front of her, Felix, would have anything to do with her at all.
Only then did Felix c***k a satisfied smile. He turned the key in the ignition and said, "There's a banquet tonight. You're coming with me."
He'd always been spoiled and domineering, and Georgia couldn't be bothered to argue with him about it anymore.
Felix first took her to a styling studio to pick out a new outfit, and only then did they head to the banquet together.
The moment they stepped through the door, Georgia spotted Ophelia in a sleek, formal women's suit.
A whole crowd of men was hovering around her, and Georgia watched as the smile on Felix's face froze solid in an instant.
She curved her lips into a cold, faint smile and let go of Felix's hand on her own initiative. "Looks like your assistant's getting harassed by a bunch of guys. You should go help her."
Satisfied with how compliant and sensible Georgia was being, Felix's voice softened immediately. "Alright. Wait here for me, I'll be right back."
Georgia watched him rush toward Ophelia, eager as a man racing to reclaim his most prized possession, then calmly looked away.
That wait stretched on for three whole hours.
Georgia was worn out, so she got to her feet and headed for the lounge.
But the second she reached the door, she noticed that it was open just a sliver, and faint, stuttering gasps drifted out in disjointed bursts.
"Felix, that little lace set I have on under my dress… do you like it?"
Georgia's stomach dropped.
Ophelia's breathy, whiny moans cut through the air right after, followed by Felix's low voice, "Love it. You better wear it for me again next time…"
"Ah, easy… I've still got your baby in my belly, remember?"
