26: Small Mercies –––––––– * * * * THE POLICE GOT A FRANTIC CALL from a woman who was out walking her dogs. On their way to the park, the animals detected the unmistakable odour of rotting flesh emanating from behind thick shrubs. The dogs barked like mad. Curiosity got the better of their owner; on the approach, she saw a foot. She made a mad dash home and called 9-1-1 in a state of hysteria. Moore and Sandoval went to investigate.
