FOR HER PART, ANDY wondered what happened to Banjo when she got part-way through her run, and still, she hadn’t come across his shadow. At one stage, she slowed to a walk, hoping he would either catch up or come out of hiding. She gave up when she checked her timepiece: it was nearly time for the morning muster. When she arrived at the mess hall, nearly everyone was gazing up the wall-mounted big screen TV to watch the early morning news. It was so quiet she could hear her own breathing.
