ALTHOUGH IT WAS NOW midnight in Houston, Andy was still awake thinking of Banjo. She was curled up in bed listening to music when she heard knocking on the door. ‘Honey?’ ‘Mom?’ The door opened. A pale-looking Mary entered. ‘Honey, there are men here to see you.’ ‘What?’ she said, startled. ‘They said they’re from Fort Sam in Houston.’ Andy quickly jumped out of bed to change into a grey T-shirt and khaki pants. ‘Mom, please tell them I’ll be out in a minute.’ And she was!
