Ranglen, like most visitors “under the ring,” came with trepidation and irrational fear, a sense of “there but for the grace of God go I”—or, more accurately, for the grace of money, privilege, and power.
A framework of the so-called gravity plates ran beneath the surface of Annulus. Shaped like vanes or wide blinds, they formed a huge arcing wave, like a horde of crows with interlocked wings. These generated the gravity that kept everything on the upward surface from floating away.
