The time spent in light-space never varied. Every jump, no matter how much distance in our universe was covered, underwent the same inboard time, while the transition for people left back in normal space was instantaneous. The proposed reason was that the Airafane Clip drive worked on the difference between our universe, now called time-space, where c—the speed of light—remained constant and time varied, and another universe called light-space where t was constant and c varied.
