The room was suddenly full of people. Doctors and nurses moved quickly around Michael’s bed, checking his pulse and looking at the monitors. The machines were still beeping, but the sound was steady and calm now. Michael was very weak, and he couldn't speak more than a few words, but he stayed awake. The main doctor turned to Maeve and Cassian with a smile. "He is doing much better than we expected. We need to keep him here for two more days just to be safe, but he is out of danger." Maeve let out a long sigh of relief. She was still holding her father’s hand, but she felt Cassian’s hand on her shoulder, solid and warm. Michael looked up at them. He saw how close they were standing and how Cassian was looking after Maeve. He looked at their joined hands and gave a very small, tired nod.
