The Demon King's Rules

675 Words
I stood before Kael, my heart still racing from the encounter with Lyra. I couldn't understand why she was so willing to trust him, but I knew I had to focus on my own survival. Kael's eyes narrowed as he looked at me. "Aria, I see you're still determined to cause trouble," he said, his voice low and even. "But let me make one thing clear: you will follow the rules here. You will not attempt to escape, you will not speak to Lyra about anything that could be considered treason, and you will train with my servants to learn the ways of the demon realm." I felt a surge of defiance at his words, but I knew better than to argue. Instead, I nodded, my eyes cast downward. "I understand." Kael's eyes seemed to bore into mine, as if searching for any sign of deception. After a moment, he nodded. "Good. You will begin your training tomorrow. Xandros will escort you to the training grounds." With that, he dismissed me, turning back to the papers on his desk. I felt a shiver run down my spine as I realized just how much power he held over me. But I also knew that I had to play along, at least for now. As I left Kael's chambers, I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. His rules seemed simple enough, but I knew that following them would be a challenge. It will only be a temporary truce,I had to pretend to be obedient, because I had no intention on giving up on my plan to escape and I will do whatever it takes to protect Lyra and myself. Xandros was waiting for me outside Kael's chambers, his eyes gleaming with amusement. "So, it seems you're going to play by the rules now," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. I shot him a look, but said nothing. I knew that Xandros was just waiting for me to slip up so he could report back to Kael. As we walked through the winding corridors of the palace, I couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead. What kind of training would I be undergoing? And what would be the consequences if I fail to comply with kael's rules? We reached my chambers, and Xandros pushed open the door. "You have the rest of the day to yourself," he said. "Tomorrow, you'll begin your training. Be ready at dawn." I nodded, watching as he turned and walked away. As soon as he was out of sight, I let out a deep breath. I had to be careful, but I also had to be prepared. I would learn everything I could about the demon realm, and I would use that knowledge to escape. I spent the rest of the day pacing back and forth in my chambers, trying to come up with a plan. But as the hours ticked by, I realized that I was running out of time. I would have to be ready to act soon, or risk losing my chance forever. As night fell,I lay on my bed,my eyes fixed on the ceiling. Tomorrow will bring new challenges, but I was ready. I would face whatever lay ahead,head-on. As the sun began to set, I heard a faint knock at the door. It was one of the demon servants, come to bring me dinner. I ate in silence, my mind racing with thoughts of escape and rebellion. As I finished my meal, I heard the door open again. It was Xandros, come to escort me to the training grounds. But as he looked at me, I saw something in his eyes that gave me pause. It was a glimmer of warning, a hint that there was more to him than met the eye. "Let's go," he said, his voice low and urgent. "It's time for your training." I stood up, my heart pounding in my chest. What lay ahead, I had no idea. But little did I know, tomorrow would bring more than I ever could imagined.
