I just go. The trees close in around me as I step past the edge. It’s louder than before—birds calling, small animals shifting through brush, everything alive and moving. But not empty. Never empty. I walk deeper this time. Further than before. And something in me isn’t afraid anymore. That should scare me. But it doesn’t. If anything— I feel stronger. Less afraid. Less human. A branch snaps behind me. I turn instantly. They’re already there. The twins. One leans casually against a tree—the cocky one. The other stands a little further back, watching. Silent.
