Chapter 8 Jay I twist the leather strap of my watch to glance at its bronze dial. Just enough time to run through two proposals laying untouched on the desk. Before long, I mark out the most salient points. Once done, my fingertips run over the documents, re-examining my observations. “Perfect.” I smile with the satisfaction that comes from a burst of work that’s been swift and efficient. I press the button of my secretary’s direct-line on my phone. “Claire, I have a few folders on my desk for you to file away.” “Sure.” My next meeting is a forty-five-minute drive away, at the other end of town.
