I wiped the sweat from my brow as I stood, grinning down at Darius, sprawled out on his back and holding his center, face grimacing from the blow I just dealt him.
“Seriously, Alpha, what the hell.” His voice echoed in my head.
I had to admit, I was enjoying this new strength since becoming Alpha and loved putting all my male warriors in their place.
I held my hand out to him and he took it, allowing me to pull him to his feet.
“Go help Marcus train the new recruits.” I signed.
He shook his head and brushed the dirt from his clothes, though it just made smears of mud across his thighs as it mixed with his sweat and he headed toward where Marcus stood surrounded by young males and females varying in age.
Training consumed our days. Pack members who always wanted to learn how to fight approached me the day I killed Gabriel and asked if they could join our ranks as warriors. I quickly agreed to give them the chance. Shortly after that, more and more pack members asked if they could simply come train to strengthen themselves, though they had no desire to fight. I had agreed under the stipulation that if we ever needed them, they would step forward. I was proud as I stood in the center of the arena looking over a happy, healthy pack. My eyes met Marcus’s and I nodded.
“I’ll leave training to you. I’ll be in my office.” I linked.
It felt strange how comfortably I was able to call that space mine. Maybe as strange as how comfortably I stood in this spot, now in charge, but where one day, all these warriors had taken turns beating me. Now there were none who could.
I headed toward the house, energy running through me that I knew to be from my wolf, craving her mate. I had to agree with her. His arms had felt so right and I was almost desperate to experience it again. I hadn’t seen him since that day.
Movement caught my eyes and I looked over at the members turning dirt in our expansive gardens. It was the kitchen Omegas who had suggested and then led the effort. I was grateful for it. I knew where the money in our accounts came from and I didn’t feel right spending it. But right now, I had no other choice. I needed to feed and care for our pack. We changed some old laws which forced heavy taxes on those working in town and canceled out my father's rules over the number of pack members allowed to work outside pack grounds, or even leave them. It was classist and went against everything I was trying to cultivate.
My bathroom had changed as much as our pack. It was too hard to be reminded of Rose daily. Her bedroom remained a shrine to her existence, but this room was no longer the pink, plush, girly pandemonium it once was. Now, it was sterile. Just a white shower curtain, white walls, and white floors. I let the water wash away the dust and dirt covering me, watching as it ran in streams toward the drain. Was I doing the right thing being Alpha? It was a thought I didn’t dare entertain anywhere except here where I was alone and vulnerable. I wanted to see Rose just as much as I wanted to experience that juxtaposition of comfort and exhilaration I felt from my mate. From Sam.
I could go be in his pack. I don’t know if I would be welcomed necessarily, but I had a right to be there as his mate. It would mean seeing my sister every day and that alone may be worth it.
I turned off the shower, dried, and dressed in jeans and a black tee before heading to my office. It was no longer the dark gloomy place it was when my father was here. I had it painted white and the furniture was comfortable and crisp. It was my splurge from the account we had found in my mother's name. A white tufted sofa and matching chairs filled the center with a table between them, two floral chairs sat in front of my large glass desk, and my own seat was a dark blue matching the flowers on the chairs in front of me as I sat in it and opened my laptop. Thirty-five new emails. I groaned as I started opening and replying to them. All were orders and receipts except for one. One from an Alpha, but not just any Alpha. The one who killed my father. A kill that should have been mine and I scowled at the thought of him but clicked on his pathetic name anyway.
Alpha Weston of Black Moon Pack,
I apologize for our initial meeting in the hospital and for not reaching out sooner to congratulate you as the new Alpha of the Black Moon Pack. My daughter has been asking to come to visit you, and I was hoping to send her accompanied by my Beta at your earliest convenience if you would allow it.
Please let me know. I look forward to the future relationship between our packs.

Alpha, Crescent Pack
I scoffed. Fuc*er. Clicking reply, I typed out my response.
Alpha Black of Crescent Pack,
I didn’t realize we had a relationship between our packs as I was never approached about an alliance. As far as a visit from my sister, Rose, is concerned, her membership in this pack will never be terminated as she is a blood member and therefore permitted on these pack grounds whenever she desires. No bodyguard or chaperone will be required as I can guarantee her safety myself. However, if your Beta would like to accompany her, I am sure he has a clear understanding of the conditions of his relationship with me and this pack, and as my mate will also not be refused admittance to pack grounds. Please do not bother me over trivial things in the future unless you are requesting a visit from someone without a right to be here as it comes off as you trying to claim ownership over what is mine.

Alpha, Black Moon Pack
Hmmm.... maybe my shower thoughts were giving me a great idea. Maybe it was time to pay a visit to the Crescent Pack. Mate rules said I had every right to be there, and messing with an egotistic Alpha could be fun.
