Chapter 1: Slayer Academy

"Valeria you're going to be late for class." My grandmother shouted from downstairs. I was still laying in bed with a pillow on both sides of my ears, trying to block out her voice. Then i felt the blanket pulled from on top of me. I groaned. "Get up!" My grandmother told me sternly. "If you don't i may have to throw a bucket of ice water on you." My grandmother smirked at me. "Okay, okay. I'm up." i quickly got out of bed as she threatened me. I remember the last time she said that. I had thought she was merely joking until i felt cold water drenching my pj's. She can be very persuasive when need be. I showered and changed into my uniform. It was a white buttoned shirt underneath a dark blue jacket and i also wore a dark blue skirt with white stripes with it. I often paired it with knee length socks and a pair of black shoes. When i had training, i would wear a t-shirt with a sword insignia on it along with shorts. I headed downstairs and sat down at the dining table to eat breakfast that my grandmother had prepared. Bacon and eggs were my favorite, therefore it tends to be my breakfast everyday. I lived a few miles away from the academy which is why my grandparent would often make me walk there as exercise. It was also because we didn't own a car. It takes about 5 minutes until i can see the huge sign that indicates Slayer Academy. It was a huge school that was built by the royal family about 4 centuries ago, so it looked like an old castle. But now it has been slightly modernised and by that i mean they only added a few things you can find in this century. It was made of bricks which made it cooling on the inside during a hot day. There were 5 classrooms, 2 potion's lab, 1 gym, and 2 libraries. We had most of our training outside on the field. We usually have swords training, defence classes and arrows or daggers training. Apart from those we are expected to keep in shape. Our school has the most libraries, we have the most extensive knowledge regarding our race and history. In potion's lab, we learn how to make poisons and healing potions. "Valeria!" As i could approached the school i could hear my name being called. Then i was knocked to the floor. "Watch it!" I hissed at the person who knocked me over. I was rubbing my shoulder to where i had been hit and in the corner of my eyes i could see a hand in front of me. I took it and got up. Suddenly i was lost in time and space. I was looking at the deepest blue eyes i had ever seen. He had a strong muscular built and had hair of snow. It was amazing how white it was. He was wearing a black sweater with the sword insignia on it. I didn't realised that i was staring until i heard someone clearing their throat from behind me. I rolled my eyes. "Sorry about that. I didn't realise that girls literally fell for me" He took his hand back and ran his fingers through his snow white hair and started to laugh. "Adrien." He extended his hand. "Valeria.-" I rolled my eyes and didn't bother to shake his hand. "Next time watch where you're going." I told him in a bored expression. I could tell he was your average Mr Popular. I turned my back to him and walked towards my friend Scarlett Davis. "First day of senior year and you're friends with the cutest guy in school. Jealous much." She smiled at me. "Ugh no we aren't friends. In fact i don't like him. He's too cocky." I scowled at her. "Sure." She smirked at me. "Come on little miss match maker, we got to get to first period. What's your first class?" "History with Mr Connel." She groaned. It was her least favorite subject. I started to laugh at her. She just ignored me. "Don't worry, i have the same." Turns out we had all our classes together except for swords training. We walked towards our class and sat down at the farthest row. Mr Connel appeared and stood behind the podium and began his lecture about vampire history and how they came about. "The first vampires that ever came to existence were called Elders and there were 2 of them. Before they became vampires they were merely humans. But soon human greed took over and they wanted more power. One of them was a chemist, he was the one who made a potion out of a bat's blood and human's blood. When mixed they form a black liquid. 5 drank the potion but only 2 survived to tell the tale. Now they are the most lethal creatures on the planet. They should be about a few millennium of age. No one has seen them because they created their own children, known as Children of the Night, now called vampires for short, to their dirty work. You'd need to be bitten by the leader of the pack to turn. Some say that if you drink from the blood of the Elders you become more powerful than them. But you have to drain them of their blood. But that could just be an old myth." I was busy scribbling down notes while most of the class was daydreaming. History wasn't one of the popular subjects. As soon as we were dismissed, Scarlett and i ran towards Swords training. It was our favorite subject. We were often paired together because we were the best and no one could beat us so they didn't bother to pair with us. "Alright class, i will pair you up today." Mr Casen spoke with an intimidating voice but i didn't mind it. "Ugh why me." i groaned. I was paired up with the one and only Adrien. "Don't complain, I'm the one with Milan. She can't even hold her sword right." "Wanna switch." I grinned. "Yes but we can't. Just suck it up." She was getting annoyed. Any girl would have wanted to be in my place right now. I just lifted my lips in dislike at her and turned to my partner. "My lady." He bowed. "Let's get this over with." He chuckled at my response. I just rolled my eyes. "Always straight to the point. I like it." He grinned at me. We both took out our swords from the hilt at our waist and lift it up in mid air. We assumed fighting position, with feet wide apart for better centre of gravity. As soon as we heard a whistle we stepped towards each other and circled one another. I took the first swing but he blocked me with his sword. Our metal blades collided and made a high pitched sound. I took the opportunity to kick his legs. He hadn't been expecting that and fell to the ground. But he quickly recovered and he pulled me to the ground. I fell as he got up and he pointed the tip of his sword at the base of my jaw. "Giving up already?" He smirked. "You wish." As he was distracted making comments i sliced his thigh and blood came oozing out. He winced and backed away. I brought my sword to his chin and he dropped his sword indicating defeat. "I have to say I'm quite impressed, not many people can defeat me at my old school." He got back up and shook my hand. "I'm not impressed by you though." I smirked as i shook his hand. He gave me an amusing smile. "Girl! I can't believe you defeated Adrien!" Scarlett was screaming while running towards me after Adrien walked away. "He was good but not good enough to beat a Dupont. Anyway why are you so shocked?" "Well he was the top swordsman at his old school but i think because he accidentally caused a really bad accident in class once so they had to switch him to different schools." "Well i guess if we ever compete against his school we'll already know who will win." I grinned. "I don't get why you call him cocky when you clearly are the same." Scarlett muttered under her breath.
