CHAPTER 2
“Alpha,” he heard his beta who stood behind him, eyes on the girl lying on the ground. Even his beta was astonished to find that how she managed to get pass the fiercest sentinels of the pack that patrolled the area and attack the intruder even first and ask questions later.
The beast turned, his midnight black fur had a unique white circle just between his amber eyes that was visible under moonlight. This mark had set him apart from all other wolves out there, making him look almost a royal, and no one knew why he had this mark. But there were theories. Some said it was the moon, and moon Goddess had blessed him. Some said that he was meant for something else. A few cynical believed that it was just a mark, and had no significance. No wolf ever had this type of feature, and perhaps this was what made him the most powerful and the strongest alpha. This always drew attention of the enemies which distracted them for a moment, and that distraction served as an opportunity for the alpha to take that enemy down.
“Alpha,is she a witch?” Rhys — his beta— asked in an alarmed state.
The beast growled at him, this doubt didn’t sit well with him.
“Sorry alpha. I only said this because she doesn’t have any scent, and a witch can cast such spell,” Rhys said. His alpha growled fiercely and Rhys shut up. The alpha was mad that his beta had a strong argument but he didn’t like his implication of her being a witch. And why he didn’t like it when she could be a potential danger made him madder.
“Do you want me to take her to the dungeon?” Rhys asked skeptically as he wasn’t sure what the alpha actually thinking. Otherwise, his alpha would have either put the intruder in dungeon or killed by now.
The alpha growled, and the beta stepped back to show him that he didn’t mean to offend him. The big alpha wolf looked towards the direction the pack house.
“Pack house?” Rhys asked again in more skeptical tone to which the alpha only bared his sharp teeth. And this was a yes.
The alpha took his time to step aside so that his beta could lift this mysterious woman to carry her to the pack house.
When beta crouched in front of her and touched her shoulder, a sudden jolt of electricity shot through her and the beta scrambled back because of the excessive intensity of the shock. He felt as if his hand had burnt with the fire from hell.
No one in the right mind would like to touch something like that. But how could this even happen? Both alpha and the beta were shocked.
The wolf looked at the unconscious girl with curiosity. With one last look at her, the alpha walked into the woods, behind a tree. He transformed back to his human self and grabbed clothes from the stash that had been kept here for such times. After wearing the pants, he grabbed the t-shirt and walked back to the spot where that girl had been. Putting on his t-shirt on his muscled frame, he stretched a bit and cracked his muscles. He wasn’t much happier about transforming back to his human form that soon. He loved the wild side of his being, and this dark and deep woods were his solace.
“Alpha, I mean no disrespect, but taking her to pack house could be dangerous. We don’t even know who she is,” Rhys tried to reason with his alpha again.
“Taking her to dungeon will surely cause havoc. There are dangerous creatures, and what if she frees them? Pack house is viable solution. I wonder what makes her so different.” The alpha sat on his hunches, observing the beautiful intruder in moon light. For a second he felt as if she glowed under moonlight, and he was drawn to her, but this connection vanished as soon as it appeared.
When he was about to touch her, his beta spoke, “you shouldn’t touch her alpha. My hand still feels like burning.”
Alpha sighed. “I tackled her down and I felt nothing. I’m sure I’ll live,” his voice heavy and held no-nonsense hint.
Then he touched her shoulder and he didn’t feel any shock or anything to which his beta just looked at them with a dumbfounded look. The alpha gathered her in his arms and stood up.
“Find out, how our sentinels couldn’t hear her?” the alpha commanded his beta and he bowed his head as a sign of acceptance of his command. Then he walked to the pack house.
Also, gather everyone in the pack house. I’m going to held a meeting. The alpha mind-linked to his beta.
Alpha, right now everyone is sleeping. He said back.
I don’t f*****g care! Follow my orders. The big alpha growled.
Okay, alpha.
When he entered the house, it was too quiet. Of course, everyone is sleeping.
He carried her to his bedroom, and this didn’t seem odd to him which was strange. He laid her on his bed and sat beside her, observing her soft and innocent features. She looked like an angel — pure and powerful. The beast inside him was more curious and he itched to touch her skin. On its own accord, his hand moved and he brushed her hair back and caressed her cheek lovingly.
He took his hand back all of a sudden and stood up. This was strange!
Everyone is waiting for you in the hall, alpha. His gamma mind linked.
Meeting. Yes, that will distract his monster.
He walked down the stairs and everyone bowed down to show their respect to their fierce and powerful pack leader.
“I asked to gather all of you here to inform you about something — or rather someone. This pack house has a new member now,” he said with authority in his voice and his pack his listened to him in awe.
“Who is this, alpha?” it was his gamma — Sean.
“A girl. She is here, in this house,” when he said, there were murmurers among the crowd, their sleepiness washing away with their alphas words.
“A girl? But there is no new scent,” someone from the crowd spoke.
“She doesn’t have one,” he said and the murmurers grew because whatever the alpha was saying was absurd.
“Is she a witch?” when alpha heard he rolled his eyes. Of course, everyone will think this.
“Don’t know. And we will figure it out. Meantime, no one, I mean no one will shift in this house. No growling, no fighting. Behave like humans all the time. Keep our secret all the while keeping your senses open because danger could be lurking around.”
Just then, a faint scream was heard by the alpha and he looked over his shoulder towards his room’s direction.
“What is it, alpha?” his gamma asked. Meanwhile his beta had also entered the pack house.
“She screamed, but it was faint,” he said and walked upstairs.
“Scream? No alpha, I didn’t hear. Neither loud nor faint,” his gamma said.
“Sean, don’t forget I’m your alpha,” he growled.
“Sorry alpha.”
He walked faster, “she screamed again, and it was loud now.”
But his beta and gamma looked confused because they heard no noise.
“s**t,” they all said in unison because now there was loud shattering noise in the room. She probably had thrown something breakable.
They ran with their inhuman speed and alpha pushed the door open. They all stopped in their tracks when they saw their intruder holding another vase in her hand, ready to throw on the ground.
She froze as well and looked at three strange men with suspicion in her eyes. She was in her defense mode, ready to attack, only she didn’t have any weapon.
Then her eyes fell on the vase in her hand and an idea formed in her head when a voice told her to smash on end of it on the wall and have a pointed weapon for her safety. She did that! And held the pointed edges towards three men who were still in their previous positions watching her with narrowed eyes.
One of them grabbed her attention, he was bigger than the other two or her eyes played tricks on her, just like her head had done many times. She shook her head — this wasn’t the time to think that how handsome this man was with those midnight black hair, Amber eyes, high cheek bones and square jaw.
“Who are you?” she asked, moving her hand slightly up.
“So funny? We want to know the same?” Rhys asked her and her eyes snapped to him.
“Were one of you chasing me?” she was little scared when she remembered why she was running in the first place.
“What?” Rhys was the one who said this.
“Answer me.”
“Chasing you is the worst idea. You burn people,” Rhys’ tone was little harsher. The alpha growled at him for this.
“What were you doing in the woods?” the alpha asked. Her mouth parted in surprise — he had deep, masculine voice which held her attention. She was in trance for a moment when it broke and her anger came back.
She looked around her. “What am I doing in this five star luxurious room?”
“It’s my room.”
She looked back at that handsome stranger, eyes narrowing she said, “that’s not answer to my question? I don’t care if it’s your room.” She scoffed.
“You were unconscious, and I had to…” he was cut off when she spoke. Clearly, she hadn’t heard anything he said just now.
“What the hell?! This is your room? Why I’m in your room, you freak?” Her eyes widened in shock.
“I just answered your both questions,” the alpha said through his gritted teeth and she scowled at him.
“Keeping her here is not a good idea, alpha?” his gamma said.
“Alpha? Did your parents hate you so much that they named you ‘Alpha’?” she scrunched her nose up with furrowed brows.
All three wolves in their human form looked at her as if she had grown two heads.
“What is your name?” the alpha said, fighting the twitch that threatened to form a full smile. He was amused by this little girl.
She thought for a second and looked away, out of the window. “Flora. My name is Flora.”
The alpha grunted in annoyance but there was a part in him that seemed amused by her little act. He finally moved, walked closer to her, stepping on the shreds of broken vase. Her eyes glued on his as if she was trapped in those Amber ones. She couldn’t even register when he came so close that his minty breath that had hint of cinnamon fanned on her face and her deep violet eyes closed in an instant.
Keep hold on yourself. Again that voice in her head brought her from her dream land.
“You don’t look like Flora?” he said.
Her lips parted. She wanted to say something but decided against it. His eyes noticed the way her full pink lips formed an O before shutting up. Ant it was worse — she almost pouted. Almost.
The dangerous beast wanted to r****h her in this instant, wanted to hunt her down like a prey, and making her scream in pleasure, but he had to refrain his primal desires. She could be dangerous.
“And you don’t look like Alpha. What is it? Is he beta, and he gamma?” she pointed to the two men behind him.
“No. I’m beta and he’s gamma,” Sean said, correcting her.
“Oh my God! I’m among bunch of freaks. I’m having flashbacks of a show in which some military team named as Alpha saves people and kills terrorists, and in its absence the Beta team takes over.” She sighed with a shake of her head.
“I think she is just a nut-job alpha!” the gamma said. And he earned a deep angry growl from his alpha.
“Woha! Did you just…? Just… roar?” she asked with shock written all over face.
“Lions roar, little girl. I growled… like a wolf,” he bared his Pearly white at her but his smile had hidden a dangerous message behind it.
“Alpha… beta. Gamma. Wolf. And what is this? A pack house? I think you all are a nut-job,” she scoffed at them. This was disrespect to them but nobody could move to punish her. Not even alpha. It seemed as if their bodies restrained them from doing so! Strange!
“What is your name?” the alpha asked with authority in his voice and she listened to him.
“First you tell me your name,” she said.
“Little girl, this is my house, my territory. I’m the king here. You answer my questions, not the other way around,” his voice had steely edge and his face showed that he wanted her to follow his command, otherwise he’d turn a big bad wolf on her. And she mentally rolled her eyes at him.
Male ego! Why does their damn stupid male ego get bruised so easily?
She inhaled sharply and straightened back. “Jade. My name is Jade. And I’m not going to tell you my surname,” she added quickly.
The bad alpha wolf grinned at her dangerously and his eyes glinted in satisfaction.
“See, it wasn’t that hard,” he said.
“Now you tell me your name,” she arched her brow at him and he was trapped in her spell.
“Jaxson. My name is Jaxson. And I’m not going to tell you my surname,” he mimicked her words with a satisfied smirk on his face.
One day, we’ll wipe this stupid, sexy smirk off your face. That voice in her spoke again and Jade groaned in annoyance. She never understood the voices and now this stupid sound finds this man’s smirk… sexy.
Don’t call me stupid! That voice said it again. And he is sexy.
Jade just sighed and looked up to see Jaxon staring at her intently.
