He had an old beach towel wrapped around his hips, and his hair was spiky from the salt. I wandered over and lean against his hood. “Howzit, Little Cuz,” he said. “Where’s Jay? Long time since I’ve seen him out there.” “Home. Shark Week reruns.” “Ah.” Nili-boy adjusted the last strap on the surf rack, tightening it down for the drive back to Waimanalo. “That’s bad,” he said. I nodded. “I think seeing big sharks psyched Jay out.” “Ti leaf lei?” I shook my head. “He doesn’t believe.” Nili-boy crossed his arms and leaned his ‘okole against the driver’s door. “He’s scared to surf.
