A combination of Hawaiian Fruit Punch and Sprite mixed to taste. Highly addictive.
“Wait, wait, wait!” Mom said. “Don’t come in!”
“Okay,” said Uncle Kahana at the front door. ‘Ilima stood next to him, wagging her tail. “Kinda hard, though, to hand you these papaya through the screen.”
Mom came to the door, hair in a messy bun, no makeup, and dark circles under her eyes.
“Tell me you had the chicken pox already,” she said.
“Yeah. Small kid time. Why?”
“Hallelujah! You can come in, but wash your hands before you leave. Lili went to the doctor for her annual school physical for Ridgemont and brought home chicken pox! Paul, Lili, and Jay are all scratching away, driving me crazy.”
“‘Ilima, you better stay outside,” Uncle Kahana said.
