We watched for a moment as his slippahs slap, slap, slapped the lava rocks, his old man’s hammajang trunks hanging off his hips and hitched up again and again in time with his feet. I stood and walked to the next large tide pool. After checking the area for wana, I decided to lie down on my stomach and peer over the edge. ‘Ilima came and lay next to me, head on her paws. At first, I didn’t see anything. Gradually, as the memory of my shadow faded, the residents came out of hiding and business began as usual.
