Kajika looked down at his watch when Keener walked into the office the next morning. The night before, Aaron had gone to talk to Dani and hadn’t returned. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to know what happened. “ You slept in,” he teased with a smile. Keener remained quiet as he sat down. Dani came in a few minutes later after having been training Nate and the others. They were becoming her elite little army. They had come so far since Dani took them under her wing and they were completely loyal to her. Pride filled Kajika when he saw Dani was showing off the scars she got from battle. He was glad that she was more comfortable with herself and he suspected that Keener had something to do with that. Dragov walked in and groaned. His eyes were on Dani and he licked his lips. “ Damn Kajika, she’s pretty damn gorgeous when she’s not bleeding out!” he said. Javier laughed out loud when Keener gave Dragov a dark look.
Dragov returned Keener’s dirty look and sat down in the chair opposite Kajika. Keener sat at the head of the table and Dani sat to his right. A screen rose up from the middle of the table and flickered to life, showing Parnell’s face. “ This is a briefing so let’s make this quick. Beside me is Agent Cross, also known among division inner circles as the Reaper. She was sent here by the division to take us all out.” Keener said. He let all of that sink in before he continued. “ We can all thank Kajika for his close relationship with agent Cross, otherwise I’m sure we wouldn’t be sitting here having this conversation!”. None of them laughed. “ Parnell, debrief us on what you’ve found so far.” Keener said and Parnell cleared his throat and adjusted his glasses. Dragov handed out tablets with the information that Parnell had gathered. Dani looked down at it and her expression hardened. “ As you can see, I have traced the latest attack on the New York division headquarters back to Lau. She’s been orchestrating everything from behind the scenes with Black Tusk's help and having her spy pin it on us. She has been communicating with someone within our ranks but I am having a hard time unscrambling the signal. From what I can glean from her personnel files, however is that she has blamed the death of her sister on Agent Alani Kelso.” Parnell said.
Dani sat back against her chair. It all made sense now. She orchestrated the attack on the New York headquarters and then called Kelso for backup. Lau was planning on taking out her revenge on Kelso, who was the mission head when Lau’s sister died. Agent Lau wasn’t expecting Kelso to bring Dani along. That was why she looked uncomfortable when Kelso had introduced them. Lau had no idea that Dani and Kelso were friends. Or that Cross had been activated. Anger coursed through Dani. There had been hundreds of division agents in the New York headquarters and now there were only a handful left and it was all on Lau. Kajika looked over at Dani and noted the cold expression on her face. He recognized that expression well. It was her I’m going to f*****g make someone wish they’d never been born face. “ Find out who Lau’s spy is!” Dani said. Dragov and Keener had been talking but when she spoke, they became quiet. They all knew how Dani had gotten her reputation, they just hadn’t known she was a woman until now. Parnell looked to Keener. Keener looked at Dani and saw the Reaper. “ Do it. We need to know who in our family we can’t trust.” Keener said and Parnell nodded.
Dragov studied agent Cross from the corner of his eyes. He knew why she wanted to know who the mole was. The Division agents were like a family and family was everything. Dani turned to Javier, her expression made from granite. “ I need to get out of here.” She said curtly. Without another word, Dani got out of her chair and left the conference room. She had so much anger and she needed an outlet. When she was gone Parnell cleared his throat. “Okay, that was slightly terrifying.” He said. When Agent Cross had gotten up to leave, Theo had seen the scars marring her body and he’d had to hold his breath to keep from gasping in shock. ‘ How the hell did she survive all of that?’ he thought to himself. “ Dani has been a part of the division for the majority of her life thus far. She was fourteen when she joined. Lied about her age.” kajika said. Dragov whistled with a shake of his head. “ Damn she was just a kid!” he said. Kajika knew all about Dani’s history. Knew the events that had molded her into the woman she was, the weapon she was. He assumed Keener knew some of it as well. He’d seen her file on Keener’s desk. When the briefing was finished, Dragov, Keener and Kajika went down to look for Dani.
