Love and Betrayal

Chapter four

    Dani took out anyone who was terrorizing civilians. Those who picked on the weak pissed her off.  Thoughts of Javier swirled around in her mind. She wanted to know why he would join the enemy’s ranks. What did this Keener have on him? She slowed as she turned a corner. In the distance she could see a large force and they were executing hostages publicly. She looked around to find a vantage point that she could shoot from when she heard a man laughing. She snuck around her cover and noticed the man who was yelling was the rogue agent Keener. He was standing beside a woman holding a gun to the temple of a man, his family off to the side crying. Before the woman could pull the trigger, Dani pulled a knife from her black fatigues and threw it. The knife thumped home in the throat of the woman and she fell on the ground with a grunt, her body twitching. Dani laced all her blades with a highly deadly poison. After that, all hell broke loose. Men and women rushed at her but they were no match for her. She shot her way through the gang towards Keener. She growled when he smirked at her and dropped her now empty handguns. Keener attacked as soon as she got to him. He figured that because she used her guns that she must not be big on hand to hand combat. The fight was brutal but Dani had an edge. She was pissed. She thought that maybe Keener was threatening Kajika. That maybe he didn’t have a choice but to join Keener. Keener wasn’t smirking by the time Dani had him pinned to the ground, a knife at his throat. A sudden piercing pain lanced through her right shoulder and she grunted. She started to turn around when everything went black and she collapsed.

Her head was pounding when she woke up. She tried to lift her hands to rub her head, she couldn’t. Turning her head she saw that her hands were zip tied to a bed with a metal frame. “ Son of a b***h!” she yelled angrily and pulled at her restraints. “ If you keep doing that, you are going to hurt yourself Dani.” A voice said from the door. Dani whipped her head around and there was Javier. Tears filled her eyes as she looked him over. He looked good, healthy. “ get these f*****g things off of me.” She said her chest heaving. He smiled at her as he walked over. Javier cut the ties at Dani’s wrists and ankles then stepped back, eyeing her warily. It hurt to see Javier look at her like he was unsure of her. She always had his back and even though she was being told he was the enemy, he didn’t feel like the enemy to her. “ We had to check you for wires.” he said and his eyes moved down to where her scars were. He inhaled deeply and shook his head. “ I am so sorry Dani, I never would have left you there if I knew you were alive.” he said, his voice soft with regret. Dani gingerly sat up. She rubbed her wrists and sighed. Then she got off the bed and walked over to him. “ I know Javier. It drove me crazy thinking you were dead.” She said and wrapped her arms around his middle. He in turn wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tightly. “ I would have gladly died for you Kajika, you know that.” She said softly. When they pulled apart, both of them had glistening eyes. Dani chuckled softly as they walked out of the room. “ You know, after I recovered, I hunted down every one of those motherfuckers. They died screaming.” She said darkly and Javier laughed. “ I don’t doubt it Cross.” He said. A clearing of someone’s throat had Dani in a defensive position in front of Javier while Javier looked in the direction of the sound.
