The ride to New York was quiet and tense. So many thoughts raced through Dani’s head. She just couldn’t believe that Javier had gone rogue. Dani shook herself out of her thoughts when she heard Kelso’s worried voice. “ You need to land us now!” she was saying. Dani looked out the hanger of the chopper and saw green smoke coming from the division headquarters of New York and she grew still. Most of those agents were probably dead. Before the helicopter even touched down, Dani was jumping out and running towards a gunfight she could hear happening. A group of gang members had some civilians and agents cornered. Dani growled in anger and pulled her assault rifle from her right shoulder. Unlike Kelso who stayed back to fire from behind cover , Dani fired as she ran towards her targets. When her assault rifle ran out of ammo, she pulled her handguns from their holsters and fired. The gang ran towards her, shooting guns, swinging knives, bats, whatever they happened to have in their hands. One man ran at her and swung a large axe at her. Dani dropped down to her knees and slid in between his legs as he swung. As she was going through them, she shot the guy in the face. Two more she took out in close combat with knives she pulled from her boots. Only one guy got away and she let him go.
Dani dusted off her pants and turned around to find everyone staring at her. Her face remained stoic as she walked over and picked up her assault rifle from where she’d dropped it. “ Holy s**t, you’re the Reaper!” one of the other agents said. Dani hated that nickname but it was one she’d earned. She just looked at him and then around the area. She didn’t want to be caught unawares. The group picked up their injured and showed Dani and Kelso the way to Haven; the stronghold they were staying at. To say Paul Rhodes wasn’t impressed was putting it mildly. He hated Agent Lau and didn’t trust the Division. It took Kelso and Benitez to convince him to let them all stay. Dani watched quietly from a corner of Rhodes’ office. Her eyes kept straying to Lau. There was just something about the other agent that didn’t sit right with Dani. Once the initial meeting was over, Kelso brought Lau over to Dani to introduce them. Agent Cross, this is agent Faye Lau, the senior agent running things here in New York. Lau, this is Agent Cross.” Kelso said. Lau looked Dani up and down and then nodded. “ I’ve heard about you agent Cross and I must say, you aren’t what I expected but I guess you get that a lot.” She said with a nod. “ Welcome to New York.” She said and led both Dani and Kelso downstairs so they could infer in private. Dani looked around at all the information Agent Lau had gathered. There was one picture in particular that caught her eye. Dani plucked the picture off of the cork board and stared down at it. “ Kajika, is working with a group of rogue agents led by Aaron Keener. They have quite the f****d up group. Over there is Theo Parnell. He’s an engineering and computer expert. A whiz kid recruited right out of college. This is Vivian Conley. She is f****d up in the head, has obsessive tendencies and is a chemical engineering expert. You already know Kajika and that giant over there is James Dragov. He’s the heavy weapons expert. Son to some bad news Russian Mafia Don.” After a while, Lau’s voice faded in the background as Dani continued to stare at the picture of the man who she considered her brother. In it he was smiling down at her. They were standing in front of a cafe with other agents. Tears stung her eyes and she closed them to stem the flow. That night, Dani read over every one of the files on them. She was the only one who could find Kajika once he’d gone to ground.
