"s**t!" Mabilis akong napailag nang muntik nang tumama ang suntok ni Ares sa mukha ko.

It's been a week. The last day of the month in every semester, we have an assessment. And no, it's not math, science and english. It's punching, kicking, swords, spears, arrows and etcetera. Yes, a sparring.

I coughed blood when Ares punched my stomach so hard. I almost fell. But I stood up straight and put my fists in front of my face. I already dropped my weapon and so did she. We couldn't find another one so we fought hand to hand.

She looks pretty busted as well. She has a scratch on her cheekbone and her lower lip is sabog. Yes, I punched her hard. She gave me a wicked smile and was about to come at me when Archer blew on his whistle which made the people around us, who were cheering on, quiet and so did we.

We're on the field, by the way.

"That's enough hand to hand combat," he threw two swords on the ground. We both looked at it then at Archer, who's sitting on a very high chair with Chandler, like those chairs na inuupuan ng mga lifeguards.

"Fight." He seriously said. "Be careful." He loudly said but he was looking at me, like what he said was just for me.

I didn't mind him anymore and took the sword. Ares was quick to grab hers too. I clicked my tongue and attacked her. She shielded my sword with hers and so we battled.

I managed to kick her on the stomach when she stood over me, boastfully bending down on me as I lay flat on the ground. I used all my force on both of my legs and kicked her while she was proudly looking around, thinking that she defeated me.

No way.

"Aah!" She squealed when she abruptly hit the ground with my kick. I heard her groan, roughly. I then swiftly stood up and pointed my sword on her as I walk over her, stopping at her hip part.

She was holding on to the back of her head and pain was visible on her face, she didn't even bother to fight. Itinuro ko ang dulo ng espada ko sa baba niya. I raised her chin as I listen to the crowd as they count.

"3, 2, 1.." And then the crowd when wild when the bell was rung. I win. As expected.

I chuckled and lend Ares my hand. "You okay?"

Inirapan niya lamang ako and was about to stand up on her own but she was in so much pain so I held her and helped her up. As soon as she was up, she immediately pushed me away. Nagulat pa ako nang bigla siyang nawalan ng balanse, pero buti nalang at nasalo naman ito agad ni Slate.

Everyone congratulated me as I went to my bench below the high chairs where Archer and Chandler are sitting. I just smiled and nodded.

Akmang kukuhanin ko na ang towel sa duffel bag ko nang biglang tumalon si Archer mula sa high chair at binigyan ako ng tubig.

"Thanks." I gave him a small smile and drank on the water bottle that he gave me. "Baho naman ng laway mo." Biro ko to ease the tensions between us. He looks serious. I know he's worried. He's really into me and it shows.

For the past week. Archer has been taking me to small rendezvous by the lake. Treating me food, buying me random stuff, even flowers. Palagi niya akong tinutulungan if he can and he barely left my side. He's really taking this courting thing seriously.

He smirked and grabbed my towel. Binasa niya ang dulo noon ng kaunti bago ako hinapit palapit sa kaniya. Napataas ang mga kilay ko nang hinawakan niya ako sa pisngi at dahan-dahang pinupunasan ang dugo sa mga sugat ko sa mukha. It as on my chin, upper lip, and cheekbone sa left.

"Not bad," he said in a low voice, it was almost like a whisper. "I'm so proud of you." He finished wiping my wounds before giving me a smile and kissed my forehead.

Ah, that felt good. Relaxing even.

"Come. Let's go to my cabin. I'll check you up." He has this devilish smirk that I don't trust. Baka anong gawin sa'kin neto ah! I mean, hindi naman ako magrereklamo. Hahahaha

I narrowed my eyes at him which made him chuckle. We were about to go nang may apat na lalaking naka all white suits na lumapit samin. Nandito parin kami sa field. People are still here waiting for the next fighters to take their assessments. Everyone became quiet when a man in an all black suit came into the scene.

He was serious and intimidating. He has this business aura on. Napalingon ako kay Chandler nang pormal niyang binati ang matanda. Hindi naman masyadong matanda, siguro mga late 40's or early 50's ganun.

Siniko ko slight si Archer when he stood up straight with authority as well. "Sino 'yan?" I whispered.

"Urel Velasco. A business man and one of the primes." He shortly said.

Napatango-tango lamang ako. Is he related to Ares Velasco?

With that thought, nilingon ko si Ares na mabilis na nagliligpit sa mga gamit niya sa duffel bag na dala. Akmang aalis na ito sa senaryo nang may malalim na tinig na tumawag sa pangalan niya.

"Ares, come here." And like a loyal dog, she went to the guy and stood up straight. I can tell that she's nervous. Her hands where fisting behind her.

"Yes, dad?" I wasn't surprised. Her father asked about her assessment. Bigla akong kinabahan. Pakiramdam ko pag malamang nitong natalo ko siya, dudurugin ako ng tatay niya--

"No, I won over Aries Argente, dad. Don't worry." She said with no hesitation. I acted like I wasn't surprised and slowly turned to Archer only to see him slowly turning to me too.

I gave him a questioning look, but he was also clueless so we just pretended.

A few moments later. Hinarap na kaming lahat ni Chandler and he announced something about the guy and his job. Looks like he's a very serious business man. He recruits volunteers or great fighters in camp to be one of their team. Apparently, he needs people to protect him. I didn't understand why at first. He's rich, he can pay much better people who are more professional. Why hire teens?

"15 million, a month. For every trainee defense team in my company. I am not only a business man but I am also a governor. Maraming nagtatangka sa buhay ko. If I hire ordinary fighters, they easily die or get defeated because they don't have tactics. Unlike all of you here, who are trained ever since you were children." Napamulagat ako.

We could die just by protecting him?! What the hell! No way!

"Don't worry. My enemies don't fight 'til death. Only if necessary. And whether you like it or not. We'll be taking recruits here. Starting next week. We have eyes here, examining each and every one of you, to see who's going to be strong enough to be a part of my team." He smirked and clapped twice.

Agad namang lumapit ang isa sa mga kasama nito na naka puting suit. He gave him a scroll and handed it to Chandler. Chandler just smiled, muntik pa akong napatawa dahil nakikita ko ang ka-peke ng ngiti nito.

When they left, Chandler postponed the assessment to tomorrow. I am walking to my cabin with Archer. My head is still full of questions, that I had to ask.

"What was that all about? At ano bang ibig niyang sabihin sa 'whether you like it or not'? Can you please explain? Hindi ko siya gets." Napasimangot agad ako saka pasalampak na umupo sa sofa.

Hinahalungkat niya ang ref habang nagsasalita. "Matagal na siyang pumupunta dito. Namimili siya ng mga magagaling sa away. Either with or without weapons. Wala namang choice ang mga tao dito, he's a prime. I guess it's one of the the primes' deal with the founders. Hindi naman makatutol si Chandler dahil student body president lang siya. He doesn't know the real rules. Minimake-sure niya lang na ligtas talaga ang mga recruits na dadalhin doon." He started cooking something and I just laid my head back to the sofa.

"Ano namang gagawin doon? Gaano katagal?"

Nagkibit balikat ito. "Malay ko, hindi pa'ko naka experience. And just the whole month, then isosoli ka na rin dito." Napatango tango nalang ako at mabilis na tumakbo papunta kay Archer.

Ang bango ng luto nito. It's just an omelette sandwich pero natakaw ako. Sinandal ko ang ulo ko sa balikat niya habang nagluluto siya.

"Wow, ang sweet, label muna." Napatawa lamang siya nang hinampas ko ang braso niya. Edi 'wag. Binibigyan ko na nga siya ng signs na malapit na lang, sasagutin ko na siya.

"Oh, asa ka? Akin to 'no, magluto ka ng sa'yo." Akmang babawiin niya ang plato sa'kin nang tiningnan ko siya ng masama.

"Kaya nga, magluluto nga ako ng sa'kin." Bawi nito so I smiled and started eating.

Dahan dahan lang akong kumain dahil sa sugat ko sa labi. Punyeta lakas naman kasi ng mga suntok ni Ares. Parang may halong galit! Assessment lang naman 'yon, ah! Ba't siya galit?!

The day went on until dinner. Inaya ako ni Archer na mag dinner sa diner. Habang kumakain kami doon, from time to time nililingon ni Archer ang phone nito dahil palaging nag be-beep. In the end, sinilent niya rin ang phone niya.

I looked around and noticed that there are men in suits here. Are these the people who's going to be inspecting us? Kumakain lang naman mga tao dito, ah.

"Kung sagutin mo nalang kaya 'yan? I won't mind." His phone vibrated again. I didn't want to interfere which was the only thing stopping me from peaking at his phone and find out the caller id.

"I'm.. sorry, wait lang." He showed me his index finger, I just nodded and watched him quickly go outside the diner while answering the call.

When he came back. He looked frustrated. I tried to ask him what's up but he just kept denying, so I just shut my mouth. Baka private family stuff 'yon. I shouldn't be involved.

Habang naglalakad kami sa gilid ng lake, he still looked bothered. I pulled him to edge of the lake. There was a cave that overlooks the view of the whole lake from the side. I asked Nimue to set me up a little date here. May blanket, picnic basket for snacks, bucket with champagne and ice, there are also fairy lights and pillows. The moon's shine was reflecting through the lake water and it was so beautiful.

Napatawa lamang si Archer habang tinatago ang mukha sa likod ko. Kinilig pa nga.

I pulled him closer to the cave and we sat down there. I excitedly took the board games. I just noticed na we were both so into board games.

"Anong gusto mo? Scrabble, Monopoly, or.. Chess?"

"Ikaw." Sinapak ko siya sa braso at tinawanan niya lang ako. "Scrabble na nga."

So we played scrabble while drinking champagne from time to time. Napapatawa nalang ako kay Archer. Pag nakikita niyang matatalo ko na siya, gumagawa siya ng sarili niyang mga words, tapos ipinaglalaban pa niya na totoo daw ang mga salitang iyon at dapat may points, for effort. Ang daya ah!

"Ako naman! Sumosobra ka na ha! Daya mo naman diyan sa 'lolpopping' mo." I teased his made up word. Palagay ko, intention niya ang lollipop pero naubosan na siya ng blocks. Ang daya talaga!

"Totoo nga 'yan! Nabasa ko 'yan sa thesaurus." Pinaglalaban pa nga. Dinamay pa ang thesaurus.

Tumatawa na binuo ko ang salitang 'you'. I had an idea when he picked Scrabble. I wanted this moment to be the time that I tell him na gusto ko din siya. Na sinasagot ko na siya. Ayoko namang gawing simpleng 'gusto kita' lang 'yon.

"Oh!" He pointed at my letter stand and then at my face. "Ubos na sa'yo! Lamang na ako sa points! I win!" Tumawa ito habang binuo ang huling salita na nagawa niya gamit ang mga letter blocks niya. Nagamit na kasi namin ang ibang blocks.

"Bilangin mo muna 'yung points! Ang daya mo!" I didn't know how I'm going to show him what I came up with. So habang binibilang niya ang points sa checkbook na dala. Niligpit ko ang ibang mga blocks, and only left the four words that I formed kanina.

"256 lang sa'yo. 264 ang sa'kin. So talo ka—" napatigil siya sa pagsasalita nang nilingon niya ako na seryosong nakatingin sa kaniya. I don't know how to react!

Pano ba 'to? Kailangan bang nakangiti ako? O ano?!

"O-okay ka lang?" Ba't ka nautal? Okay ka lang? Tingnan mo ang ginawa ko. Bilis!

I conversed with him using our eyes and I lowkey gestured him to look down on the board.

"Eye." Basa niya sa word na naka kunot ang noo. "Like.. Y-you.. Two." He bit his lower lip and looked at me. Trying to stop himself from smiling but he failed. He grabbed a pillow and buried his face in it. Napakunot ang noo ko.

Napaigtad ako nang sumigaw ito.

Ano ba 'yan?! Ayaw mo ba?! Kinabahan agad ako. Sumigaw ito mula sa unan at mahigpit na nakakuyom ang kamay nito sa unan. After he screamed. He inhaled a large amount of breath before withdrawing his face from the pillow. His very red face! He's blushing!

Napatawa ako sa mukha nito. Ang pula pula ng pisngi niya at ang tenga niya, pati na rin ang ilong. His tongue is poking on the insides of his cheeks while he was looking at me intently. He playfully rolled his eyes and looked away while slightly shaking his head.

"Hindi ko gets." Aniya.

Aba! Gusto mo lang na ulitin ko eh!

Tumawa lamang ako at niligpit na ang board. "Hindi ko na uulitin." Sabay halukipkip.

While I was folding the board he held my chin up to level his face. I was so close to him. It made my heart beat so damn fast.

"Say it, I wanna hear it from you." He said in his low voice. Hot!

I gulped before talking. "I like you," it was almost like a whisper. "So much already." I added. He smiled and claimed my lips.

At first I was shocked but I was quick to respond to his kisses. He pulled me closer to him and made me sit on his lap, with my legs on both of his sides.
