Onions and bacon were filling the kitchen with their smell as I flipped pancakes on the stovetop. It was still early, barely 7 a.m., and the twins were all sleeping up above. The stillness of the morning had afforded me this unusual time to think, to breathe. Since that threatening text from Reina had come last night, I hadn't slept much.
