Bound by Fire and Lies

Arielle’s heels clicked sharply against the marble floor as she entered Damon’s office the next morning. Her red dress clung to her frame — deliberate, dangerous. The same color as the fury that burned inside her. Damon didn’t look up at first. He sat behind his desk, reviewing a document with the same cold detachment she remembered from two years ago — the same indifference he wore when he’d crushed her family’s company under his name. “You’re late,” he said without emotion, eyes still on the paper. Arielle smirked, her voice a low challenge. “I wasn’t aware the contract came with a time limit.” Now, he looked up. His gaze swept over her, slow and assessing, lingering too long. “Everything with me comes with limits. And consequences.” “Then I’ll just have to be worth breaking your rules for,” she replied. The silence between them thickened, charged with unspoken things — betrayal, attraction, unfinished pain. Damon leaned back in his chair, his eyes narrowing. “You think I don’t know why you’re here, Arielle? You think I didn’t see through your little stunt — coming back into my company with a fake résumé and a new last name?” Her blood ran cold. He knew. But she didn’t flinch. “If you knew, then why am I still standing here?” He stood slowly, walking around the desk until they were face to face. “Because,” he murmured, voice low and dangerous, “I want to see how far you’ll go.” Arielle met his gaze without blinking, though her heart was pounding so hard she thought it might break free. “Far enough to destroy you,” she said quietly. Damon smiled — a slow, devilish smile that sent a chill down her spine. “Then let’s see who burns first.” Outside the office window, the city lights flickered like distant flames — and Arielle realized this wasn’t just a battle of revenge anymore. It was the beginning of something far more dangerous.
