Kevin’s POV
Two days after the dinner disaster, Kyle was still freezing me out. I was trying my best not to snap, but he was right, he’d warned me not to do anything stupid with the information I had gathered on his boyfriend.
A light knock sounded on the door. "Come in," I called out, assuming it was Henry.
It was Kyle. "Hi," he said softly.
"Hey," I replied, dropping my guard. "Kyle, I’m sorry about that night. I should have told you the moment I got the info. I’m really sorry I embarrassed you."
He let out a dry laugh, ignoring my apology. "How do you know Alex?"
"Why do you want to know? It’s in the past. You’ve never asked questions like that before," I grumbled.
"No, it isn't in the past. It’s obvious you two have some serious unresolved issues. Don't you dare lie to me, Kevin, not after that stunt you pulled at the restaurant. As for the questions? You never gave me a reason to ask them before." He looked hurt, and that stung worse than his anger.
"Okay, fine. I was her personal guard for two years while you were a freshman in Varsity. We worked well together... until the day she accused me of plotting to have her kidn*pped and killed to extort her for money. A few days later, I heard she was planning to humiliate me publicly. So, I quit."
"So that was the last time you saw her?"
I nodded.
"Except on television. Her brother has been MIA from the media for a while. When I heard his name that day, I honestly thought it was just a coincidence." he looked content with my answers. He gave me a side sad smile and walked out.
Later that afternoon, I was at the local ice cream parlor with my friend Diana and her husband, Tyler. Tyler had just excused himself to the restroom when a familiar, sharp voice cut through the air.
"Well, well, well! I didn't know security personnel had the privilege of lounging in ice cream parlors, Blackwood."
A slight shiver ran down my spine. I knew that voice anywhere. I turned to face Alexandra, who was looking far too good in casual khaki shorts and a black top.
"Well, Spectre," I said, leaning back. "When you own your own agency, you can take off whenever you want and try to have a life. Try it sometime; you might even thank me later."
"What do you mean, when you own?" She was fuming. I didn't answer, knowing my silence would drive her crazy.
"You know what? Don't answer. Just tell your brother to stay away from mine. You parasites."
She was pushing it now. "Okay, Ms. Mutualism."
She looked like she was going to cry, and for a split second, I felt like a jerk. She collected her ice cream tubs and turned away. She looked... incredible. Those shorts hugged her hips in a way that made me—
"Kevin, I know she was wrong, but two wrongs don't make a right," Diana interrupted, pulling me out of my thoughts.
"I know. She just makes me so damn mad. When she start, I can't stop."
"Are you sure that's the only reason you're angry?" Diana smiled knowingly. "You just don't usually lose your cool like that."
"Who made you mad Kevin? I can rearrange their faces before we leave." Diana's husband Tyler asked.
"Don't worry about it, ready to go?"
"Yeah, let's hit the road, I miss my kids." Tyler said dramatically. They got into their car heading back to their home. "Ty take care of my girl. And Diana, I will see you soon, bye guys."
When I got home, Henry was waiting by the door. "Good evening, Master Kevin. Someone’s visiting Kyle. He said I should be the middle man for now."
I laughed. "For now? Okay, I will behave if those were the words you were looking for."
"No sir, not in that way." I nodded and walked past him.
"Kyle, I'm home!"
"Hey, Big Bear!" Kyle called out. "I asked Lindon to join us for dinner."
After a quick shower, I joined them. Lindon was giving me sideways glances throughout the meal.
"Lindon?" I said, setting my fork down. "Do you have something to ask, or are you just going to gawk at me all night?"
"Kevin!" Kyle hissed.
"It’s okay, Kylie," Lindon said, squeezing my brother’s hand. He looked at me seriously.
'Kylie?'
"Kevin, why did you just disappear like that? That day at the restaurant I thought it was you but had my doubts since a lot have changed in your body." I chuckled at that.
"I reckoned you didn't remember me at all. A lot happened Lindon and I wouldn't want to bring that up without your sister around but all I can tell right now is that I left as I felt insulted." He knitted his eyebrows together.
"I'm sorry for whatever happened but Kevin, I would never try to hurt Kyle. The day you left I lost another brother but I'm grateful that the person I fell in love with is your brother." He was right, whenever I was around he would say we were family, I hated leaving without telling him.
"I know, I can see that in your eyes." He blushed. Henry and Kyle stood up and went to the the kitchen, to get dessert. "I don't want to be the one who stood in the way of my brother being happy and finding love. I can see that you love each other and the way you look at him, so you have my blessings."
"Wow, thanks," Lindon smirked. "I look at him the way you look at Alex, right?"
I choked. The juice I was drinking sprayed across the table. I wiped my mouth, meeting the kid's knowing gaze. "I don't see her that way, Lindon. And I don't mix business with pleasure. She was a client, nothing more."
"I may be a kid, but I have eyes," Lindon interrupted, cleaning up the mess while he still smirked. "What bothers me is how you guys let your egos ruin your happiness. You say you don't mix business and pleasure, but you aren't on her payroll anymore, Kevin. So what's the real excuse? Because right now, it’s clear you want her."
Henry and Kyle walked back in while Lindon was cleaning up the mess I made with the juice, he was smirking at me. If it wasn't the fact that I loved this kid like a brother and I would lose my brother forever, I would had stuffed him down the toilet. That secret wasn't supposed to be known.
"Like I had said Lindon a lot happened, just be happy with Kyle, yeah." I muttered.
"Thank you, Kevin! I love you, Big Bear!"
I grinned like a fool, happy to see my brother happy. But as Kyle kissed Lindon, my mind betrayed me. I wondered what Alexa’s lips tasted like. I felt my pulse quicken and my jeans tighten.
Damn it. Focus on work. But it wasn't working. Damn you, Alexandra Spectre. You are definitely not my type... so why can't I stop thinking about you?
