“Let’s just eat before I lose my appetite.”
That was all I said and after that, he didn’t speak another word. Silence settled between us. I focused on my food, finishing every bite on my plate. I ate faster than usual, aware of how the sky was beginning to lighten. The sun was slowly rising, painting soft streaks of gold and pale blue across the heavens.
Once I was done eating, I stepped out of the kitchen to prepare the things I needed for the journey ahead. Mrs. Alicia was kind enough to hand me a small pouch bag, perfect for storing the medicinal herbs I had gathered.
