Chapter 9

Brad I paced back and forth in my room. I was angry, worried, frightened even. I had never felt so worried in my entire life. Who was that wolf? Why did he attack her? It drove me insane to not know who the person behind the wolf form was, especially because whoever he was, he was also an alpha. "You need to calm down" Andre told me but ofcourse I couldn't calm down. My mate was in danger, and worse, she is f*****g human. Powerless. I was supposed to protect her always. What if I hadn't gone there, what would have happened? Goddammit! Why does she have to be so stubborn. Why wouldn't she just agree to be mine. I wasn't one to wait but here I was, waiting and being patient for her to fall in love with me, yet I didn't see that happening. I didn't know if I could wait any longer. "We would search everywhere and find this werewolf, I promise" Andre tried to assure me. "But who would want to hurt her? And why?" I still couldn't wrap my head around it. "Could it be Tyler?" Both Andre and I snapped our heads to Alec. "He did say he was going to get his revenge on you" Alec shrugged. "No" I shook my head, "Tyler is no alpha and there is no way he would find us here, at least not now" I said, silently trying to convince myself. "But whoever it was, once I find him, I will tear him to shreds" I said in anger. I continued pacing about again, trying to think of a way to protect Layla and then, the idea hit me. I paused and looked at both of them. "I have to turn her" at my outburst, both of them stared at me like I had just grown two heads. "You cannot be serious" Andre said in disbelief. "Ofcourse he's not serious" Alec said to Andre but then when he saw I was indeed serious, his lips parted. "Dude! You cannot be serious" he repeated Andre's words. "Do you realise how dangerous that is, we literally had to move across the country just to remain extinct and start a new life here. You want to jeopardize that because of some... " "I would not finish that sentence if I were you" I warned Alec and he shut up immediately. "He's right though" Andre chimed in, "it is way to risky. If our identities are exposed, it will bring chaos to this city. Forget the city, it will bring chaos to us. Remember what happened the last time" Andre finished and my mind traveled back to the past for a brief minute, after which I saw reasons to their disagreement. The last time our identities were exposed and people knew that werewolves existed, it was horrible. Lives were lost. The humans became a threat to us because they saw us as a bigger threat. They were right, I couldn't let that happen again. I sighed, running my hand through my hair. "What am I going to do then? I asked, truly confused. "Just keep on trying to get her to fall for you" Andre suggested. "Easy for you to say" I said "It is easy man, you are cute, rich, popular.. " "She doesnt seem to fancy any of that" I found it rather weird, "hell, she told me to stay away from her" I still couldn't believe it. "Then try harder" Andre urged. "Or better still, look for another mate" Alec murmured, knowing fully well we could still hear him. The moment I turned to look at him, he raised his hands in surrender. "Just kidding" • • • • The next morning, we got ready for school and just as we were about to drive off the parking lot, Gia and Ashley hurriedly slid into my car, joining Alec at the back seat. "If I remember correctly, you have your car" I reminded them. "Come on, its boring to drive by ourselves" Gia answered, leaning forward to kiss Andre's cheek. "Plus I know you miss our company" she added. "Actually, its pretty noisy with you too around, so no" I informed them. "He's lying" Ashley whispered to Gia. "I heard that" I told them, looking at them from the rear mirror as they giggled. I couldn't help but imagine Layla being part of the car ride, it would be heart warming. We got to school and dispersed to our various classes. I took pleasure in watching Layla through out the morning classes. She was really so beautiful. During lunch period, the five of us sat on our usual table. I was earnestly waiting for Layla to come sit with us, like she did the last time but when she entered the cafeteria, she found an empty table and sat by herself. Disappointed, I just stared at her. I didn't want to go to her, not because I couldn't just walk over there and sit with her, but because I was taking my two friends advice. I was taking it slow. Even though it was f*****g hard. "That's sad, she would rather stay alone than join us" Ashley said, worry laced in her voice. "Should we go meet her?" Gia asked me. They seemed to really care about her, even though at the beginning, they were doing it for me. "I think we should give her some time, everything must be overwhelming to her" Alec said. "You're right" Ashley agreed. Just then, whispers echoed around the cafeteria. Extremely loud whispers. Everyone was turning their heads to look at whoever it was that entered into the cafeteria but I didn't care enough to even want to know go it is. I just thought maybe Hayley had probably added even more make up to her face and had dressed in a bikini to school. I wouldn't be surprised if she did that. "Oh my God!" It was after Ashley's exclamation and her horrified facial expression, I knew I had to look. I shifted on my seat, looking over my shoulder and behold, walking majestically into the cafeteria was Tyler. A bloody reminder of my past. "You've got to be f*****g kidding me" Andre said in annoyance. "I don't believe in coincidences" Alec said with equal annoyance. My body tensed up immediately I set eyes on him. He looked to be totally enjoying all the attention and stares that were thrown his way. As I watched him with great annoyance and irritation, I had only one question in mind. What the f**k was he doing here? And then, my question was answered when he scanned the entire cafeteria until he spotted Layla and then he actually walked to her table and sat with her. My blood ran cold instantly and I was about to get up and storm over there but then, Andre placed his hand on my shoulder, stopping me. "Don't, you're going to make a scene" "Like I give a s**t!" I snarled. "Think about Layla, if you make a scene, how would she see you?" I looked at him and tried to calm down abit. "Let's listen to what he has to say" he suggested and I quickly started listening. "I'm sorry, I hope you don't feel uncomfortable with me sitting here" he asked "No its fine" she answered. "I heard this is a great school, I would really love to know everything about it" my hands slowly formed into fists, as his voice was pure irritation to my ears. "I don't know, I'm new here" she said. "Oh, that's a shame, I was hoping you could give me a tour" That bastard! "Well I'm sure you will find a lot people willing to give you a tour" she replied. "I'm Tyler by the way" "Layla" "Nice to meet you Layla" he smiled at her. My skin was practically curling at the way he looked at her. "Since we are both new, we definitely need to catch up with the curriculum. Would you wanna join me to study later?" Fuck him! I didn't even wait for her to reply, I bounced off my chair, ignoring Andre and Alec's call and stormed to their table, glaring murderously at Tyler. "Get up" I ordered and he stared at me with feigned innocence. "Get up" I almost growled. Layla immediately grabbed her tray and left us both with each other. Great! "What the f**k are you doing here?" I forced the question out from clenched teeth. "Its good to see you too" he joked, making me loose the last bit of patience I had. I leaned down and grabbed the collar of his shirt, lifting him up to his feet. "I will not ask again" I threatened. I could feel my wolf rumbling inside of me and my eye colour changing. "Let go of me" his eyes equally shone red, shocking me to my core. My hands released his shirt as realisation hit me that it was him who attacked Layla. "So it was you? You f*****g attacked her" I accused. "What are you talking about?" Was he trying to play dumb with me? "Last night, you f*****g attacked Layla" I repeated, low but clear. "As much as I would love to take credit for that, it wasn't me" his answer left me shocked, confused and speechless. "I didn't attack your precious Layla. That doesn't mean I don't want to hurt you so f*****g badly, but that's not my way" he said to my face before walking away. At that moment, my worry and fright from earlier returned. Only this time, it was accompanied with full on insecurities and questions I seemed not to have answers to. If it wasn't Tyler who attacked Layla, then who the f**k was it?
