MAGIC & MUSIC

1204 Words
"Are you sure we won't get in trouble?" Sia asked after Caden padlocked the gigantic steel door that led to the hallway through which they had entered The Pit’s arena. He had asked a while ago about her powers. Sia hadn't used her powers in some time and she wondered if she was still worthy of using them. Gideon had used and exploited her thanks to her powers, sometimes Sia resented being a witch. Sia still resented that werewolves existed but the more time she spent with Caden and Silver the more she could understand them. Could they understand her? “Can I ask you something?” She blurted out. “What?” Caden asked absentmindedly while turning off most of the lights and only leaving on a few small lights strategically located on the ground around the arena. “Do you want to hear some music?” he asked her then as he dug into his pocket to take his phone out. Such a strange piece of technology that was. She had been learning slowly about the new technological advances and the cellphones were one of the most impressive pieces she had ever seen so far. She nodded as she stood the in the middle fidgeting. Suddenly the silence was broken by allowing tones that Sia could only describe as pleasantly eerie to create the perfect atmosphere to demonstrate her magic. Sia had never exactly had an audience so having Caden sit in a metal chair as he crossed his arms over the back and rested his chin on his forearms to give her his undivided attention was strange. “What is like to be a wolf?” He frowned seemingly confused by her question. “What is like being a witch?” he replied. She nodded, fair enough. “You can’t expect me to have an answer for such a thing. It’s the same as asking me what it’s like being a male.” “I believe you can answer, and it wouldn’t be so difficult.” “It would.” “Do you regret turning into a wolf?” she asked softly as she paced around Caden who was watching her with a strange expression. Sia's hands danced to the calm rhythm of the music, purple sparks sprang from her fingertips and darker smoke billowed into the air. Sia visualized the image in her head as she closed her eyes and when she opened them again a figure began to take shape above their heads. A huge wolf running in circles and stopping to howl once it had circled the arena took shape from the smoke created by Sia. “No.” The wolf was joined by another two. These new ones paced near Sia’s legs, rubbing their heads against her sides. She couldn’t feel them but was still possible to smell them. “Were you created against your will?” “No.” My, he was very difficult to c***k. “You will have to give me more than a monosyllabic answer.” "Why do you want to know about my creation? What do you gain by knowing this about me?" Sia noticed the defensive stance that Caden had taken and for a few moments she feared that he was going to hurt her, yet he wouldn't dare ... would he? He had been commissioned to be her protector so it was foolish to even think that he might be able to hurt her in an outburst. “I am trying to get to know you, Caden.” She whispered producing more shapes out of smoke. Soon they were surrounded by twenty wolves that came in all shapes and sizes. He scoffed standing up and kicking at the defenseless chair. So mean, this wolf- she thought mockingly as she picked it up and sat on it before him. “Why?” his arms crossed against his taut chest. “I’d like for us to be friends.” “Why?” “Why not?” Sia didn't have any friends and she hadn't had them either five hundred years ago. She had a few acquaintances back then and Gideon had absorbed much of her time and dreams. She was alive today with a new purpose and a new goal, destroying Gideon didn't seem like a bad idea in her plans either. Today ... she just wanted to have someone on her side, to support her, to listen to her ... someone who would not say anything while she unburdened herself of all the hardships she carried on her shoulders. “I’m afraid I am too busy worrying about your safety these days, a friendship hadn’t crossed my mind.” Caden was different from Gideon in many ways and that gave her a certain reassurance. Sia hoped that by putting her trust back in a wolf he would not betray her. “What else can you do with those hands?” He grinned mischievously at her. Sia narrowed her gaze as she willed all the wolves to disappear. “I might be new to this time, but I am not stupid.” He held up his hands defensively, an infectious laughter echoed alongside the music he’d chosen. “I meant your magic.” “Right.” "I don't know if you've noticed but you live with a lot of wolves that release testosterone from their pores day and night so if I were you, I would get used to this type of comment." Caden slowly approached her giving the impression of being stalking her - and so it would have been if not for that huge smile marking his handsome face.” “Are you trying to imply I should be okay and accepting with the fact that men here will see me as if I’m nothing more than a piece of meat?” Sia blew lightly and a current of air engulfed Caden forcing him several feet back. He yelped in surprise, his eyes as big as plates. She covered her mouth to keep from laughing but failed miserably. "What's wrong? You're not going to ask me what else this mouth can do?" "What else can you do?" He was breathing heavily, his chest contracting with force. He didn't try to get close to her again. Why? Sia forced herself to compose herself and bit her lip. Had she gone too far? "Are you ... afraid of me?" When he didn't answer she found out that he was, he was afraid of her and what she could do. "I'm not going to hurt you. I would never do such a thing." “Jesus, Sia.” He groaned raking his shaky fingers through his hair. “I know that!” “Sure, I can see you’re not afraid of me alright.” She said unable to keep the bitterness from her tone. It wasn’t her fault. She had no way of knowing how her energy would project after all this time. She was learning all about it as the days went by. "I'm sorry if I reacted like that, it's just ..." he licked his lips. "I've never been so close to a witch. What else can you do? Can you fly?" Caden grew increasingly animated with each question and she couldn't help but relax as he tentatively approached her. Caden asked her to create more figures for him and the more she practiced with him -for him-, the more accepted she felt. Sia discovered then that not all wolves were trash and this one in particular wanted to know more about her just as she wanted to know more about him.
