I told my parents about his kind deeds and they went over to thank him. They invited his parents over for dinner and his family became friends with mine.
We visited each other frequently and my parents would even let me go to his house when they are not around. We bonded like perfect couples made in heaven.
More guests are coming in, my secretary told me as classical music plays in the background. It was the most beautiful day of my life, although not as blissful as my wedding to Kelvin. Our wedding was the talk of town as our love story was on every lip. It was an era where young ones get into relationship and break up in no time but we were together from teenage age till we became adults and decided to spend our life together. I was adored in one of the most beautiful gowns, decorated with beautiful stones. I was all smiles as I walk down the aisle, with Kelvin waiting patiently for me on the altar, we exchange our marital vows and we became husband and wife. It was a private event as only close friends and associates were invited. Our reception was on a yacht and we journey across the sea, with the gentle breeze blowing and melodious music made it all perfect.
The music in the room continued and it was just about five minute before my speech. Everyone is seated. I looked around but Kelvin is nowhere to be found. I tried calling his cell phone several times but I was told to drop a voice message. Where could he be? My friend Vanessa asked as she noticed that I was beginning to panic. We agreed that he will be here. This is my big day and he is the brain behind my love for art. He ought to be here. Did you guys have a fight? She asked again. I answered ‘NO’. Then put your mind at rest. "You have one of the best man on earth and I want to believe that he would not miss your big day. He is possibly planning a big surprise just like he did when he gifted you a car on your wedding night". She said.
The time came for me to give my speech and Kelvin was nowhere to be found. I walked down to the stage to give a speech about my love for art and the man behind it all. Giving all sorts of excuses for him not being around and how much he would have loved too but situations beyond his control stopped him from attending. I guessed I did it well as the audience clapped graciously for me after my speech as many showed interest in buying my collections. They praised my ability to carefully select arts with unique stories. How I wish he was there to grace my star moment. It would have made me the happiest woman on earth. Even if it will last for just that night till we get back home to the reality of our crumbling marriage.
My spirit was weak as I managed through the whole event. Tears locked in my eyes as I attended to guests who had several questions about my collections and my plans for the future. For the audience, it was a great night but for me, it was a night of sad smile.
