Once Upon An Apple

Apple Pie (Ila)

Ila arrived back at the house out of breath. She supported her arms on her knees until her breathing became normal again. Ila started walking to the kitchen to begin her pastry. The cooks had already cleared a spot for her and left a pie dish and a few bowls, spoons, and knives. Ila began by grabbing some spices, eggs, butter, and flour.  Mixing together her crust she kneaded and rolled her crust to a perfect size. She rolled out another ball of dough for lacing strips on the top of the pie. Ila began to peel the skins off the apples and cut them up into perfect wedges. A perfect golden mixture was left in the bowl after she was done. She finished by pouring the mixture into the pie pan and lacing the dough on top. Happy with her work she pushed it into the oven and cleaned up her area. 

Ila grabbed the basket that was full of peels and extra apple pieces. She walked up to the hen house and watched their chubby bodies run over to their treats as Ila emptied the basket across the pen. She let herself be drawn into the squawks and squabbles as the chickens fought over the pieces. "What are you doing lazing about? There are guests here." Ila froze as she heard her master's voice. She turned quickly and bowed before heading to the slave quarters to clean up. 

After getting changed she went back up to the kitchen to pull out her pie. It was a perfect golden brown. The smell gave great temptation, but she left it on the counter for the chefs to cut. Gathering a trolley of plates and silverware she went upstairs to set the table. She decided to set all of the spots on the giant oak table. Just as she finished the guests entered the room. Ila saw a familiar face from earlier. It's the guy I fell on. She panicked as he made eye contact with her. Her face became flushed and she bolted out of the room. She passed the carts of food going up to be served. She caught her apple pie in the corner of her eye. She paused before continuing down to the kitchen.
