CHAPTER FOUR( A DATE)

A DATE

In less than 2minutes he returned and asks me to follow him. He opened the front door and I followed suit.

He opened another door and I saw Jake on the bed and a man was standing beside his bed with a stethoscope around his neck.

“Mr. Smith, use your medications as prescribed, you will get better in no time and please call me if anything happens” the doctor left shortly after and I quickly sat beside him.

“Why didn't you call me? I was really worried about you”. He looks so weak and tired. “Sorry I couldn't take your calls, how are you?” he asked me. I should be the one to ask him that

“have you eaten, do you want me to make something for you?” I asked dropping my cross-bag

“I have taken something, but I don't mind tasting your cooking”.

I went to the kitchen to make rice and chicken and I brought it inside for him. He sat up and I fed him on his insistence

he took few spoons and took his drugs and decided to rest. I stayed with him and watch him sleep before picking up my bag to leave.

I told the boy that took me in that I'm leaving and I will check back tomorrow.

I took a cab home and quickly freshened up. I sent a message to Leah telling her what happened. She felt bad and promised to check up on him the next day.

We were having dinner when my phone rang, I looked at the caller and I Jake's name popped up, I quickly left the dining table happily and rush upstairs to my room.

I picked and he told me he's much better but he still need to rest and he would like to see me the next day.

Immediately I heard those words, my heart leaped for joy. I felt so elated. We talked about other things till he decided to go to bed and since it's almost 9pm my bedtime, I just allowed him hang up.

I didn't go back to my food because I'm filled with happiness already, hearing Jake's voice is already enough for me. I slept off feeling so happy.

I woke up the next morning and I did my morning routine since its weekend we always do some cleaning around the house. I mopped the floors and dusted the furniture in the living room.

Sarah took charge of the kitchen, mopping, arranging and cleaning the whole cabinets. Mum is busy with the laundry, I wanted to help her but she asks me to join dad outside and clean the environment.

Damian our little brother is with Dad outside trimming the flowers and removing the weed. I picked up the hose and I started watering the already trimmed flowers when I heard a voice yelling at me.

“Oh my goodness! You just ruined my outfit” I quickly dropped the hose and moved closer to him. Indeed, his dress is soaked.

He was going at the other side of the flower and I was chatting with Jake on the phone, I never realized that have raised the hose until he yelling at me. I sincerely apologized and I saw my dad staring at me intently again.

I apologized again and moved back abruptly, he looked at me and went back to his apartment. To change his clothes I think and I felt really bad.

I was really eager to finish my chores and I was happy when mum asked us to come in for breakfast. I rushed to the dining table because I’m already famished.

Breakfast was mummy's special jollof rice with peppered fish. I ate to my satisfaction and took the plates to the kitchen.

I went inside the room took my bathe again because my body is so sweaty. I put on a floral gown and applied my sister's lipstick.

“Rhoda is there a man in your life now?” I went stiffed

What are you talking about?”

“you’ve been paying more attention to your looks lately and you now apply lipstick every time”

“Also, you've wasted enough of my time you should get married already”.

I just smiled and ignored her, took my bag and dashed out of the house.

I quickly hailed down a cab, gave him Jake's address and he drove off. We got to the Venue, I paid him and went in. I knocked and he was the one who opened the door this time. He pulled me into a surprise hug and I almost let out a squeak in his arms.

Since he was much better now so we decided to do something fun. We watched a movie with delicious popcorn, played games and we enjoyed a pizza together.

I looked at my watch after a while and stood up

“Jake I have to go, it's getting late” he smiled at me and hugged me again making me giggle, before he released his hold on me, he move in closer and let his lips down on mine for few seconds

My heart stopped beat at that moment and it was like the universe was in a dream, I stood there dazed, I couldn't explain my mood until I heard him say sorry.

I quickly cut him off saying I wasn't upset, but too dumbfounded

“It's fine. I have something to tell you tomorrow Rhoda”

“Ok” I beamed my check burning

I didn't allow him walk me out because of the cold air outside and when I got home I called him and we talked for some time. He asked if we can hang out with Leah the next day since its Sunday and I said no problem.

The past few days have been happy moments for me, I'm always happy because my relationship with Jake was going on so well.

I called Leah informing her about the hangout with Jake and she said she's in. We set out around 3pm on Sunday, Leah came with her car to pick me up and I put on a blue fitted down and a silver shoe, I picked my silver purse and put on my glasses. I stepped out with Leah and we made our way to the eatery.

Jake was already there before us, we exchanged pleasantries and we ordered our food. We were in the middle of the meal when Leah poked me slightly.

I picked up the small bag I brought and handed it over to Jake.

“I got you this, I hope you like it”.

“Thanks, no lady has ever gotten me gift before”. I smiled hearing him say that, though I know it wasn’t true I was happy at his attempt to make me feel good.

“you wanted to tell me something yesterday…?” I asked really curious

Jake looked at Leah, hesitated for a moment and took my hands over the table, I was about to explode, this was it.

“I have seen how loving you are Rhoda, you're selfless and carefree and you are the type of woman I want in my life, please be my girlfriend Rhoda Brown?”

At that time, I couldn't see any other person around other than Jake and me. I felt on top of the world, it was as if I was the only lady alive.

I had never dreamt for a handsome man but here is one asking me to be his, my heart was thumbling over and over.

“Yes!” I managed not to scream so loud

A waitress walked over immediately and hand him a flower which I believed was for me, Jake gave it to me with a bright smile that shows his perfect teeth.

“A gift for out first day together”

I could feel eyes on us and guess what most of them were thinking, a ugly lady like me getting asked out by such a gorgeous man, but it was happening, I won the lottery at that moment.

I turned to Leah grinning to my ears and saw a sharp piercing look which changed quickly as she noticed I was looking at her and she pulled me into a hug instantly mumbling congratulation in a hoarse low voice.

If I didn’t know better I would have said she was no happy for me but it was Leah my best friend, I’m sure she is as thrilled as I am.

I turned back to Jack who was looking lovely at me and was too busy lost in his gaze that I refuse to notice Leah smashing her salad with her fork.

I seemed the heavens had finally made up for all the misery Iof my twenty seven years and is blessing my new year with something as great as this. I was so lucky.

A sexy best friend who supports me and a handsome boyfriend who likes me despite my physique.
