Isaac sat on the edge of the bed, watching Isabel sleep. Her breathing was soft, even, her lashes resting gently against her cheeks. One of her hands was curled loosely beneath her face, the other resting near her stomach. The blanket had slipped a little, revealing the delicate slope of her shoulder. He reached out and gently pulled it back over her, fingers brushing her skin for a second too long. She shifted slightly in her sleep, a small sigh escaping her lips. His chest tightened. How did he not see this before? How did he not realize he loved her this much? He ran a hand through his hair and whispered, more to himself than anyone, "I don't ever want to lose you, Isabel."
