Isabel stayed frozen on the kitchen counter. Isaac’s hand was still over her stomach, but his eyes were searching her face, waiting. He looked stunned, not angry, but confused like he was trying to connect dots that just weren’t there. She opened her mouth but couldn’t find her voice. He kept looking at her. “Say something,” he said quietly. Her throat tightened. She could feel her pulse racing. Her lips parted again, but no words came out. His brows slowly pulled together. “Isabel... what do you mean?” She hesitated. “It’s yours. The baby. I’m carrying your child.” He didn’t move. She looked away from him for a second, then turned back. *You planned this. It was a surrogacy agreement. You and I… we’ve been through more than you realize. You’re not with Vera anymore. She left you.
