The room was quiet, the curtains pulled halfway, letting in a dim morning glow. Isabel stirred beneath the blanket, her body shifting slightly, only to freeze the moment her cheek brushed something warm. Her eyes opened slowly and her heart jumped. She was curled up against Isaac, her head near his chest, her hand resting lightly on the fabric of his shirt. His arm was still loosely around her back, his breathing deep and even. Her whole body tensed. For a second, she couldn’t even remember how she got there. Then it all came rushing back, the nightmare, the way she had panicked in her sleep, and how he’d pulled her into his arms to calm her down.
