Chapter 3

The beta next to him jerked, allowing her eyes to open and focus on him. She got to her feet and smiled at him as if they both knew a secret. In all honesty, he couldn't even recall her name. The mild head ache in his throat was getting worse with each passing second. The beta cooed, letting the duvet slide off her nude body on purpose, "All good?" He needed some time. Of course, he was fully aware of the deception they used to entice him. That had happened to him far too often. It didn't seem to bother him. He glanced at her while leaning against the headboard. He questioned, "What's your name again?" She crossed her arms, making an offensive noise. You fail to recall? Eyes rolling, Xavier said. I was inebriated. "Jade" He held out the word "Jade. Right," and the room echoed to the sound of his honeyed baritone. The Alpha groaned once again. Cool. I suppose you know how to get out. Are you ejecting me from here? He got out of bed after responding, "Yes," and pulled on his black boxers. She was murmuring something to herself, and Xavier could hear it, but he was too hungry to fight with her. *** He noticed his best friend Chase seated with the squad when he entered the common room. They probably got used to it by this point because they didn't even blink at his half-naked appearance. After all, he spent the majority of his time jogging. The Alpha stretched his arms as wide to the sides as he could while yawning loudly. He let go of the stretching. Xavier walked to the table and sat down, murmuring, "Anyone make breakfast yet? I'd kill for some MCD right now!" He caught sight of the same platinum-blonde beta leaving out of the corner of his eyes. Extra forcefully, she slammed the door. He turned and faced Chase, asking, "What?" "Why are so many people staring at me?" His best pal moaned, "That's the fourth one this week." And that bothers you in any way? Chase extended his hands upward. I'm only reminding you to be cautious, so don't look at me. Before taking a large gulp of the orange liquid, Xavier huffed subtly. As a good buddy, Chase was watching out for him, but the Alpha didn't want to think about anyone else just now. He was already very busy. *** Xaviers' initial reaction upon catching his eyes on her was, Whoa. No, actually. That is false. He primarily directed a blank expression at the passenger in front of him. When he saw the most beautiful girl he had ever seen, he became completely still. She had long brown hair, and her black legging-clad legs looked amazing. Her wheat-colored skin was made visible as the loose, baggy shirt slightly came off her shoulder. He was briefly captivated by her round, pink lips, long enough that he imagined kissing her. He made numerous imprints on her skin with his mouth. His inner hellhound began to scratch at his insides at the mere mention of him. Chase snarled, "You're staring, bro," and thrust a hard elbow into his side. Which hurts. The girl, Olivia , continued to ignore the Alpha as he was startled out of his frozen position. He was still hidden from her view. He was attempting to draw her attention by slouching a little. He rebuffed his friend's elbow with an "I'm not" hiss. She timed when to raise her head perfectly. She froze, then. Her face became more and more aware. He was certain of it because he could see it in the way her eyes briefly flared before they narrowed and the sudden frown that appeared, which was visible even in the red-tinted light that was leaking out from behind the counter. The Alpha rolled his shoulders back and met her eyes for a drawn-out heartbeat before saying, "Oh, I know you." Fred took him aside and warned him. As if doing that will make him stop looking for her. There's something peculiar about her. Despite the fact that hellhounds are known for having an exceptional sense of smell, he is unable to detect her scent. That's strange. In response to the eerie stillness that descended upon them, Mira screamed, "In the locker room?!" Olivia grimaced. It's a lengthy tale. Xavier grinned in response. She suddenly turned her focus back to him. The runner's spine was stiff, as was her forced, lifeless smile. He clearly understood the begging expression she was giving him. Not that he'll talk about their initial encounter in front of everyone. Actually, the Alpha was ashamed of how he had treated her in the locker room. She still hasn't fully persuaded him that she isn't an omega. Yes, it is a lengthy story, but Xavier shrugged and dragged a chair in front of her. The runner exhaled with relief. They called someone to take orders for Chase and him rather than placing their own orders. Before Xavier heaved and pushed his cup aside, he managed one more icy drink. His frown widened as his throat began to wobble. He covered his mouth with a handkerchief. Xavier wrinkled his nose and said, "These are disgusting. How does anyone drink this regularly? So expensive, and I say that as an actual rich person." Olivia responded, her cheeks hollowed around the straw, a dab of whipped cream on her top lip. "I think they're kind of good." He gave it a brief moment of his attention before turning away. The Alpha crossed the table with his Venti Frappuccino. "If you liked it that much, feel free to eat it." At that, Olivia rolled her eyes. I won't accept anything from strangers, so no thanks. He mocked, "Is that what your mother told you?" Her expression darkened into a frown, and she jerkily rose to her feet. The two of them left the room silently as Mira got to her feet. Was he heard saying anything? Fred gave him a hard gaze. You occasionally need to be silent. He then left after saying that. Xavier leaned back in his chair, placing his knees close to the edge of the table and his feet up on the seat. "He's a real pain, though, isn't he?" "Fred ?" Xavier scoffed, "Uh, yeah. Perhaps because you disapproved of his pal. The Alpha extended his hands upward. "I did not harm her in any way!" "Perhaps she just isn't interested," "Hello, have you met me? Everyone wants to know about me." Chase erupted in laughter as he wiped his lips with the other hand. Maybe her lack of interest in you is due to your attitude. Xavier asked, "But why? I don't understand," he said, his face creased. He gave his beta friend a perplexed blink. I think I'm lovely, don't I? His companion laughed as he sat on the chair with his mouth open and a half-eaten biscuit straw sticking out. The beta grinned at him as he leaned over the edge of the chair. The man gestured towards Xavier while removing his straw from his mouth. "Brother, I don't think you want me to respond to that." He needed a new best friend. Amelia tightly closed her eyes as she considered what Xavier had said earlier. Not only that, but her perfume was unassuming. Naturally, it was. She is an omega acting as a beta, after all. She couldn't help but recall what had happened. I made a discovery," the pack doctor stated. The lettering on the white bottle, which he pulled out of his ripped jacket's pocket, was hazy because it was printed in tiny letters. Amelia strained her vision in an effort to understand. You can change your perfume with the pill in this bottle, but you have to remember to take it every month because it only lasts for a month. The omega gave the bottle a long look before accepting it with gratitude. There was nothing else for her to do. That, or abandoning her long-held dream, was the only option. Amelia wasn't prepared to forfeit her goal because she had already had too much snatched from her. She removed the top's cap nervously and had a look inside. The blue, gel-like pills in the bottle had a strong, unfavorable odor. Nearly brought to mind the guards outside the pack house. She tightened the cap and said, "What's the difference between these and suppressants?" The pack doctor gestured at the bottle while wiping the sweat from his brow. "You're a pure Omega; your scent is intoxicating to others, especially the pure Alphas. Suppressants hide your scent; these pills manipulate it. They may also be rare but are potentially dangerous." She made a noise while arching her brows at the bottle. The knowledge that there is someone out there who is more strong and powerful than their kind and who is interested in possessing her made her feel inferior more than anything. "Thanks for the reminder, Doc." He groaned. Like I said, Amelia, your scent is that of a pure Omega, but what if there was a way to change it so you were...safer? What if you were to smell like a beta? No one targets betas. I'm trying to help you here. There's no other way. Before turning to face the older guy and the bottle in her hands, she arched his brows. The more she considered it, the more she became aware that it was the only option. Do you believe it will succeed? "Yes," the pack doctor immediately said. I didn't think it was, but as it turns out, it is. I was out late at night searching for more herbs to experiment with when I tripped over something. I couldn't smell a thing, so I turned around and saw something I had never expected to see in my life: a dead Alpha Hellhound. What can kill one of those things?
