Chapter 2

1949 Words
I managed to get a job interview with Gary, the financial advisor of the town. Fingers crossed it goes ok and my qualifications are enough for him to hire me. I’m meeting him at his office in the business park at the other side of town. To say I’m nervous is an understatement. I could hardly eat any breakfast before I left, I felt so sick, even brushing my teeth I felt sick. Dressed in my best trousers and blouse with my black blazer, my handbag over my arm and I’m off. I arrived at his office ten minutes early. I sat in my car giving myself a little breather and pep talk. Grabbing my bag and climbing out of the car as a gust of wind blows over me. When that happens I always think it’s my dad watching over me. I’m not a firm believer in the after life but it gives me a feeling he is watching. I head into the building and speak to the receptionist who tells me what direction to go.  Climbing up the stairs my nerves get to me, my chest is tight and I’m sweating. I quickly try and calm myself down as I walk up to his secretaries desk. “Good morning, I have a meeting with Mr Marshall" I say very professionally if I do say so myself. “Ms Thomson?” she asks.  I nod my head in response. “just take a seat and I’ll let him know you are here" she tells me.  So I sit in the waiting area fiddling with my folder in my hand. It feels like I’ve been waiting for hours but it’s probably not even two minutes and my name is called. “Mr Marshall is ready for you" she politely tells me and leads me into his office. Walking in she announces my arrival and closes the door behind me. s**t. Here goes. “Mr Marshall, pleasure to meet you" I make my way over to him and shake his hand. “Ms Thomson, its a pleasure. Please take a seat.” He ushers me to the couch at the side of his desk as he takes the seat opposite me. He offers me a coffee which I thankfully take, my mouth is so dry I need it. We talk a bit about my college course as he goes over my folder I brought, listing my qualifications and experience I have from working in an accounts office during holidays. “You did really well at college, your grades are outstanding. Your dad would be proud" he says. “You knew my dad?” I ask him, shocked that this is the first time someone has mentioned him that isn’t family. “he was at the same school, I think maybe the year below me. We hung out though. As I said he would be proud Callie.” We go on to chat a little bit about my dad when he was at school. It’s nice hearing stories from then, my grandparents clearly didn’t know what he got up to then. “So, I would be silly not to offer you a position here Callie. You’re technically over qualified for my office but I’m not letting you get poached by another firm. Can you start Monday?” I gasp. Oh my god. I’ve got a job. “Of course Mr Marshall. Monday is perfect. Thank you" I tell him not even trying to hide my smile. “Monday 9am and its Gary, we are a small business but busy. Mr Marshall makes me feel far too old" he chuckles as he shows me out. Getting back on my car I just can’t contain my happiness. I quickly call my grandma to tell her the news and she’s screaming down the phone. After she’s calmed down she asked if I could collect my grandpa from the gym down the road from the business park.  I laughed at that my grandpa at the gym. As I drove to the gym I realised that this is the gym that Noah works in and his dad owns it. I just hope he isn’t hanging about.  I park my car and head inside to see if I can spot my grandpa. I see him talking to a lady, but I don’t really recognise her. I go up behind him and tap his shoulder. “Oh my princess. You ok?” he asks as he hugs me. “Alice, you remember Callie. Callie, Noah’s mum, Alice" my grandpa introduces us. Why did he have to mention Noah? I go to shake hands with her, but she pulls me in for a hug. “Oh my god. Callie. You look so like your dad. And you’ve grown into a beautiful young lady.” I blush as she says that. I don’t class myself as beautiful, I don’t even class myself as not bad. I’m too plain and chubby. “Thanks Mrs Black. Its nice seeing you again.” I tell her as we start to walk out of the gym.  We say goodbye just as I spot Noah coming out to stand by his mum. Oh god he is stunning. He had got fitter in the last few years but he hadn’t really changed though. Still hot as hell. Driving back home I tell grandpa all about my interview and he says we need to celebrate so he’s ordering takeaway for dinner. He also tells me how Noah was asking if I was home for good now. Wonder why he’s so interested. After a chilled out afternoon, we sit down for a tasty pizza for dinner and we chat more about my new job. I still can’t believe I got a job on my first try. Things are looking up. I called Tina to tell her about my news and she was over the moon. She is heading out clubbing with our group of friends and I am so jealous. With nothing else to do I head to bed early but not before grandma tells me Zoe has a wedding dress fitting tomorrow morning and I’ve to go, for fun girly time. Really. Fun girly time. I’m not 10, I laugh at her excitement. She is a bit crazy sometimes is my grandma.   As I went to bed early, I was up early. Even before my grandparents. I head down stairs to grab a coffee trying to kill the time. I have no idea what I’m going to do with my spare time. I know since I’ve been in college I gained a little weight and I told myself I would get back into shape when I got back. I could go running, I used to love running when I was at school. I did cross country and distance track running. After I finish my coffee and head upstairs to hunt out my training gear. I leave a note for my grandparents in case they wake before I’m back. Grabbing my headphones and my phone, I get my music set and do some warm ups before I start with a light jog down to the local park. I’m so focused on my running, listening to my music I don’t see the shadow behind me with the sun shining from above. I start to panicked thinking it could be a mugger or something, but I tilt my head up to see Noah. I literally stop in my tracks and freeze. “Hey Callie" he says as I take my headphones out. “Hey.” I say slightly awkward. Not how I wanted him to see me all sweaty and red faced from running.  “How long have you been following me?” I ask as we start to walk to keep our bodies warm. “A few minutes. I did shout you when I first spotted you, but I didn’t realise you had your headphones in" he chuckles as he looks at the ground. We talked a little bit more as we jogged around the park. It felt a bit awkward, mainly because I’m not sure if he knew I’ve had a crush on him since school. I always kept to myself and didn’t really speak to him or the people he hung out with. And the fact he is a little younger than me didn’t help. “Zack said you are coming out tonight?” Noah says as we stop to stretch out after our run. “I might. I really haven’t decided.” I say looking at the ground. I’m still in two minds whether to go or not. I’m not wanting to ruin their usual time together. “You should. It will be fun.” He says looking into my eyes. Oh god. He really is hot. Why is he even taking time to talk to me? “I’ll think about. I need to go. My grandma is dragging me to Zoe’s dress fitting this morning. See ya" I say as I run off.  Sprinting back to my house. I don’t know what it is about Noah that gets me all giddy and nervous. He’s just to hot to stand and speak to. I bet his girlfriend is really pretty. He is definitely out of my league though. Lost in my thoughts I head into the house and straight upstairs for a shower. I quickly get my body washed and my hair with my favourite shampoo.  Once I’m done I get dried and changed into a pair of skinny jeans and a shirt, slipping on my shoes, and head downstairs for something to eat. I still can’t get over the fact that Noah talked to me. I know I sound like a giddy little teenager but I don’t think you understand how major that is. I mean, he is one of the hottest guys in this town and sweet and always caring. I have always fancied him and dreamt of being with him. Even when I was sleeping with Damon I would image it being Noah. Weird I know but a girl can dream, right? I remember at school when I was getting bullied by a group of girls one day, they were shouting and yelling horrible things to me talking about my mum and how my dad killed himself, Noah told them all to f**k off and got so angry I thought he would hit one of them. I could have only been 13 or so and he is a year younger than me and I was surprised that they actually listened to him. Nobody really said anything to me after that and if they did it was quiet comments when I last them in the hallways at school or little notes put in my bag. So to have him talk to me like he did just makes me like him even more. Which is not something I need to be doing. He is totally, one hundred percent out of my league and there is absolutely no chance he would feel the same.
