Chapter 5

POV Miracle I was woken by Ronny shaking my leg. “Mira, Mira wake up cupcake, we need to eat”. My eyes fluttered open, it was night, and we were in the parking lot of a truck stop. As I was stretching to wake up my body, I remembered we had Pumpkin with us. “I can’t leave her in here,” I told Sam. “You can bring her in, we will just tell them she is a service animal, if they question us more, we will just have Andre growl at them”, he said with a chuckle. I nodded and grabbed Pumpkin’s carrier and climbed out of the Jeep. We made our way into the restaurant and grabbed a round booth in the back. The waitress came with water and offered us menus. “You need to start eating high-protein meats,” Andre told me. I guess there goes my figure, I thought as I chucked to myself. I never really had an issue with what I ate. I had a small frame, was a whopping 5’2, and weighed 145 lbs. We all ordered the steak special, but Andre ordered himself an extra steak. While we waited for our food, Andre and Ronny started debating about where we would go to hide out, until Andre received a message from my birth mother. “Let’s just go to New Orleans early, I can change the hotel reservation dates,” Sam said. Andre shook his head no as he had a mouth full of steak. “Why not? You are throwing Mira into this supernatural world, let her have the last Ha Ra.” Andre looked at me and emitted a low rumbling growl before he swallowed. “Fine, but you are not to wander off out of my site,” Andre said as he stared at me. I nodded and smiled at Sam for sticking up for me. Ronny pulled out his phone and started mapping the directions since we would be driving and not flying as we originally planned. “There is a hotel about two hours from her, we can stop to shower and sleep, and will be able to make it to New Orleans by 6 PM tomorrow.” Uggg a whole other day stuck in the car, poor pumpkin, I would make a point to buy her some extra treats from the store in the truck stop. Once we had finished eating, Sam changed the hotel reservation, and Ronny had the drive mapped out. We paid and made our way to the little store connected to the restaurant. We couldn’t get Sam any clothes due to the shifters that followed us to his house. The store didn’t have much of a selection unless you were a country boy. We grabbed pumpkin some treats and some ridiculous-looking clothes for Sam. Ronny and I walked behind Sam to the check out, trying to muffle our giggles. “Shut it”, Sam snapped. I am sure he would pull off the new look he will have to create tomorrow. He always dressed “Fabulous”. When we walked back to the Jeep, Andre was on the phone with someone. “She is safe. Yes, Alpha, I understand.” He said into the phone. I wondered whom he was talking to. It must be important if he called them Alpha. Andre noticed me watching him when he cleared his throat. “I got to go, I will call you soon” and he hung up. “Who is Alpha Andre? I asked. Andre looked at me studying my face before he responded, “I will explain once we are safe in the hotel room”. I nodded and climbed back into the jeep with the pumpkin. Once we were back on the road, I must have dozed off again. I was awoken by Ronny and Andre chatting about historical weapons. I tapped Ronny’s shoulder. “I need a restroom”. “Um, OK, I saw a sign for a rest area up ahead”. We drove another 20 minutes before we arrived at the rest area. I jolted from the jeep to the restroom. I heard Andre behind me running, Stop, I need to be with you.” I turned on my heels and snarled at Andre “You are not going into the bathroom with me!” Andre stopped in his tracks and stared at me. “Your eyes.” He said as he lowered his head in submission. I was confused why he was lowering his head. Was the same thing happening with my eyes that did the day we found the envelope? “You can stand outside the rest room, but you are not going into the lady’s room”, I told him and turned around and finished walking into the rest room. I glanced into the mirror but didn’t see my eyes glowing as they did before, but they did seem a little lighter than normal. Andre obeyed my command though, and I realized I was superior to him. From everything that I knew about the supernatural world, there were ranks. Once I had finished in the restroom, I met Andre outside. I apologized to Andre, and he just nodded. I was filled with grief about making Andre submit to me. I didn’t even know how I did it. How did I control it? It must be linked to my emotions. Then my nose was filled with that wonderful vanilla caramel smell. I looked around for where the smell was coming from when I saw him. He was the most beautiful man I have ever seen. He was tall with long dark hair that looked wild, icy blue eyes, and a body that looked painted. And he had dimples on each side of his smile. I have always been a sucker for dimples. Andre noticed whom I was looking at and grabbed my arm and dragged me to the Jeep, “Get in, we have to go now” he yelled. “Who is that? Why does he smell so good?” I asked in a daze. “Mira trusts me, I will explain everything once we are safe,” he said. I didn’t want to leave, everything in my body was telling me to go to him. That he was my safety, my calm, my sunshine, my air. I wanted him more than I had ever wanted anything or anyone else.
