The Missing Luna

The Truth

Derrick couldn't believe how happy he was that the camping trip was finally over. He didn't realize not having a mate was frustrating him this much. He was avoiding Kyle and Maya overhearing them having s*x on Friday night. It was pretty weird especially with their tents being close to each other. The other campers didn't even seem to notice well of course they didn't they were busy entertaining themselves as well.

Derrick saw the pack doctor leaving his father's office with a worried look, he peaked inside and saw his mother in tears while his father was comforting her. "Is something wrong with mom Rayn, can you pick up on anything" Derrick asked his wolf. "I'm not sure but I'm getting a faint scent of something in your dad's blood...." Rayn said.

"you two need to, let me know the truth this minute!! What is wrong?" Derrick shouted "your father is sick Derrick, been sick for a while now he don't have long son I'm sorry we didn't tell you sooner it's just we had hope for a treatment but there isn't any" Derrick couldn't help but stumble to the seat behind him. He felt a tight heavy knot in his chest. Derrick parents means everything to him, he wants to be Alpha but he wants his dad there with him.

He's looking at his dad and he can't even begin to imagine a life without him. He can't believe he didn't pick up on this. He noticed his parents been distant but he write it off as pack business. Derrick felt angry, sad, hurt a range of emotions at the same time he don't know how he actually feels but he's far from OK.

"there's more son, in order to run our pack you'll need to find your Luna either your true mate or a chosen mate" his dad said. One of their pact rules is that whoever is Alpha must have his Luna at his side. If the Alpha didn't find there mate they'll have to get a chosen mate if they refuse their Beta will have to fight and defeat them in order to rise to Alpha status and take over. If the Beta is unsuccessful they'll have to go to the wolf council and a chosen Alpha will be appointed but this Alpha will also need to fight. The rules are unfair because the chosen Alpha can choose other Alphas to assist.

The chosen Alpha must be the one to finish the job and he'll get the strength and powers of the defeated Alpha. Although this is the rules it had never reached to that point.

"we had a meeting with all Alpha's in person and over video call, they all agreed for you to spend at least three days at their pack to see if your mate is there, if she isn't son you'll have to choose someone" his mom said.

Now it's been clear to Derrick why they had such meeting.

"why wasn't I aware of this?" His parents looked at him without an answer. "going through packs like that could take over a year, don't we have any other solution" Derrick said. "your only other option Derrick is a chosen mate, once you make that decision if you find your actual mate you'll have to reject her" his mom said

Derrick felt defeated he may have to give up on finding his true love to run his pack and spend time with his dad. He felt sudden sadness from his wolf.

"Why can't I have as simple as others, my true mate and having my dad by my side for a while". He said to his wolf who wasn't responding and Derrick knew why. He felt guilty about his decision to consider a chosen mate. He knew how much Rayn wanted to find their mate to experience the magic, connections, bond that everyone else feels.

Rayn submerged himself deep within, Derrick can feel him but he can't connect to him.

"is everything ok?" Kyle asked "I'm honestly not okay, you are going to be my Beta sooner than you think" Derrick said and left Kyle. Kyle tried linking him but he couldn't Derrick blocked connections. Kyle has no idea what his friend meant by his statement but he felt like something was wrong.

"something is wrong and we need to figure it out" he linked Maya "is it about Derrick visiting other packs to find his mate" Maya responded.. "meet me in our room we need to talk about this" Kyle linked his girlfriend. They both rushed to their room to further discuss.

Maya explained to Kyle that her parents told her she need to start preparing for the long trip they have upcoming they'll have to visit different pack with Derrick to find his mate. Her parents told her Derrick, his Gamma, Beta and a few warrior wolves will be going on that journey.

What they are trying to figure out is the urgency behind it. Their Alpha and Luna still had a lot of time that they could remain in control of the pack. Unless something is wrong. Derrick's behavior earlier added to their suspicion.

Derrick is deep in thoughts about everything, his entire life is about to change. He's wondering if Rayn will be so disconnected that he might lose him and that will make the situation worse. He'll be forced to give up his pack to his Beta and they'll have to banish him. They don't allow wolfless people to stay in the pack even if they were the Alpha or Luna. Their pack follows strict rules and some of the rules keep them at the top of the list.

"I think I will give finding our mate a shot" Derrick said but Rayn still did not respond. He knows that he's still strongly there with him but he never felt this disconnect since he first met Rayn. They annoy each other but the bond is like no other. That's why Derrick can't be selfish he has to try and find their mate.
